car won't start

Car won't start. After reading another post on here, I bypassed the ignition switch by running jumper wire from a ignition connector to starter near the firewall. Ran a wire from the red lead on the connector to the battery and it fired right up. Still using the key will not work. Is there a way to test the solenoid on the starter to see if it is bad?
