where is the DME coolant temperature sensor located
 

So after a week of total confusion reading posts here that were not accurate and getting an answer from Nick at Pelican Parts that was also not accurate, I have learned there are 3 coolant temperature sensors on a 944 turbo.

1) One is near the intake manifold about 4 inches north of the air filter housing. It has a single electrical post and its purpose is to feed the gauge in the dash, nothing more.

2) There is a coolant temperature sensor in the radiator whose sole purpose is to activate the fans.

3) Apparently there is a DME coolant temperature sensor that sends a signal to the DME to control the fuel mixture. That part has a 2 pin connector and has the famous blue connector, at least the one from URO. The mystery after reading threads all day is where is this located ? One person stated it is under the J boot which connects the turbo to the AFM, so I took everything apart for the 3rd time and the only thing under the J boot is the new alternator I put in. Very frustrating.

Anyone know where the DME coolant temperature sensor is located ?

Before you indite the site for incorrect info realize that the "1986" turbo really is a 1985 and a half and lot of info is on the boundary line, so Porsche changed stuff on the fly and you can get contradictory information.

I'm sorry I don't recognize the location of this picture. Here is a picture of my car. The red arrow points to the temp sensor (for the gauge) that I took out yesterday and cleaned. It has a single prong connector. As you can see I've taken apart the J boot based on a comment in this forum which stated the DME temp sensor was under it. The sensor you have pointed at is actually a thermal switch to turn the electric coolant pump on and off for the turbocharger.
The sensors you are interested in are here red circle under the cross over pipe (big black pipe).
The turbo charger pump switch you are looking at is here green circle.

Ok I will look under the cross over pipe for the sensor that has 2 electrical prongs since I already bought the URO sensor with 2 terminals.

However today the car is running fine!!

Last week I posted a picture of a loose broken vacuum line just laying around. After watching this video for about the 6th time it hit me. My unattached vacuum line attaches to this sensor switch that has 2 vacuum lines.

After fixing this line, the car runs at idle and then I can press the accelerator and can go to 4K rpm with no choking and shutting down.

I contacted Kroon wire harness in the Netherlands thinking that they would know what sensors their harness connects to.

Kroon:

The 944 Turbo engine harness (all versions) has two temp sensors.


NTC2

The sensor has 2 wires, yellow and brown.

The brown wire comes from an internal splice together with 3 other wires all connected to pin 5 on the DME connector.

Inside the DME connector its connected to 5 together with the screen of the reference mark sensor cable.

The yellow is directly connected to pin 13 of the DME connector.


Water temp sensor.

The second sensor has 2 wires, blue-green and blue-yellow.

Blue-green (W) is connected to pin 10 of the 14 pole male connector (DME Trenstelle)

Blue-yellow (G) is connected to pin 8 of the 14 pole male connector (DME Trenstelle)
