951S Wheels

OK, Full Disclosure:

...I'm a 911 guy in the process of buying a 951S track car.

The stock 89 wheels were 16 x 7 [or 7.5?] and 9. PCA stock rules allow 1" larger and any diameter, so I'm looking for 17 x 8 [or 8.5?] and 10.

Two questions:
- what is the offset required for these larger wheels? In the early pre-ABS 911 world, offsets are critical. I'm not sure how critical they are for the 951S??

- Anyone know of a suitable set lying around??

Be careful with using the wheels table from that site. It actually came from the 944FAQ and some of the info is incorrect.

The specs for the TurboS are as follows:

F: 16x7" 65mm offset 225/50-16 tyre
R: 16x9" 60mm offset 245/45-16 tyre

Thanx Danno. Found a nice set of BBS race wheels that will do the job. Working the tire specs now, and beginning to understand that there are limited choices even with the 17" wheels.

Thanx all!

Yeah, I've found out tyre-selections on 17" wheels can be tough to find for my BBS race wheels too:

Wheels at 17x10.5/11.5" and I started out with 255/40-17 and 275/40-17 tyres. When I get 1" wider fenders, I'll be able to use a 275/40-17 in front and 315/35-17 in rear. But those are both 1" taller in diameter than stock. I think a 295/35-17 tyre would be PERFECT. Too bad no one makes such a creature.

I saw those monsters on your website! They are the serious business.

Biggest surprise to me was that the MPSC 255 was as wide as the Proxes RA1 275! Have to look at each vendor 's specs carefully.
I'm trying to go wider without going very much taller than stock - too much impact on gearing of they get too tall.

Your car looks fantastic - nice work on the paint job too!

HA! Photochop!
Funny - I wondered how you managed the semi-transparent fade on teh stripes. Now that I look at the 951 it all becomes clear. Still, the stripes are a nice idea.

I actually designed that paint-scheme for the '02 Open Track Challenge. Was looking around for some foot-wide vinyl tape that I could use to make those stripes. Alas, too little time to make all the preparations and couldn't get it done in time. Also if you look closely, you'll see I messed up on the "9". The vertical axis isn't parallel to the door-edge, like the number "1".
