My 951 - Quick Question

I have a quick question for you guys about my 951.

It is a 1987, registered early 1988, but does not have Anti-Lock brakes or keyless entry. However, it does have airbags and full leather seats. My questions are:

All 87's I've ever seen have Anti-lock Brakes, so could mine have been built early 87 or even late 86? How do I tell?

If I purchase replacement wheels do I go with 86 offset specs?

Does anyone have the same spec 87?

I was just curious to understand if this particular 951 is a little different from the rest of the 87s.

I wonder if the PO didn't opt for code 593

Check the VIN, is it a '88 or a '87? For either, the late offset wheels fit.
The VIN plate by the fuse box will give you the build date. The VIN will give you the year, should be something like : WPOXX95XHNXXXXXX for a '87 or WPOXX95XJNXXXXXX for a '88.

oh jeez. Brit, why didn't I think of asking you earlier. do you have access to a set of 944 wheel spacers?

It is HN, which mean it had a VIN assigned in 87. As I said, does anyone have this spec in an 87. Also, I have heard of a VW that was built in 3/91, but never recieved a VIN until 5/92. The owner purchased it in 92 as new and found after an accident the paint code was 91. She wasn't too happy about that. Anyway, I just wanted to know if I have an odd 951. Hey, great car though which ever way you look at it.

Merry Christams.

my 87 951 does not have abs, has airbags and full leather seats. plus the sport suspension, sunroof and no rear wiper.

It's not uncommon for cars to be built a fairly long time before the actual model year start; 933 and 968s are the usual suspects there.
If the VW was built in 3/91, that's only a few months before the actual model year intro in October, the VIN is assigned during production as is the build date. You probably meant it wasn't sold until 92. If it had a 91 VIn it's a 91. Porsche has a option code where the model is built in a different year to the VIN. Confused? and so am I.

Airbags were standard in '87, but ABS was optional, along with LSD and the tranny oil-cooler (standard options the year before).
