Porsche Crest Distributer noise

Ok i found that my noise problem seems to be comming from my distributer, sounds like metal on metal slapping. any ideas on what this is and what could have caused it?

I offered an idea on what's wrong with it, that has been my experience based on what little detail you gave. I note that you have not looked at it yet. If it's a abnormal noise get it looked at right now!

ok i figured it out Britwrench no offence i didnt give you alot of info but a loose timming belt would not have a metal on metal slapping sound.....

so with that in mind i took off the dis. cap and cover and found that the rotor was tearing up my dis. cap becasue the bolt that holds the metal piece that holds the rotor came loose and caused that sound and the damage to the rotor and cap.

STIFEKAT if you have the same sound comming from the distributer cap then that might be the problem, just take the cap off and if the rotor wiggles around and the star bolt is loose,,, welcom to my world... better than spinning a bearing though.

now what the hell is that metal piece called that the rotor mounts to so i can get a new one, there is some wear on mine now

i have photos i can send if i can get a answer...

thanks brit for the suggestions at least you gave some

Actually, a loose timing belt sounds exactly like metal slapping metal, goes away when warm.

MINES SOUNDS LIKE metal slapping metal only while starting the car. then i whines down as if somthing just stop spinnging. it cranks fast. and i see oil on the engine block if i stand on the passenger side were the battery is and look down just under the exhasut manifold. i pretty sure mines is a combination of a starter on the way and a headgasket, or intake leak. i'll have to comfirm the intak theroy by looking in the intercooler pipes for oil. but theres a great lose of power.
