reverse-spring on clutch ?

when i stepped on the clutch pedal recently i heard a loud 'bang' in the footwell area. when i checked i found that the blue spring that's on top of the clutch between the clutch and the steering column (closer to the driver, not the engine) had snapped.

the clutch still operates okay, but when i release the clutch pedal, it doesn't seem to return the final 1/2 inch or so. i'm guessing that this other spring was responsible for returning the clutch the final 1/2 inch to the top position.

i've checked the haynes manual but can't find anything about this spring. does anyone have info on how to replace this spring or point me in the right direction? what is this spring called and what is it for? the area in the footwell is super-cramped to work in so i think i'll have to practice yoga or something.

thanks!

okay, some more research reveals that this spring is there to assist you when you step on the clutch, so it doesn't require as much force to push the clutch.

i think the part number is: 951 423 053 02

strangely, pelican has it listed as a 'brake spring' and not a 'clutch spring'. hmm.

and i still can't find any info on how to remove/replace it. the placement and location makes it appear to require the entire clutch pedal to be removed in order to get this spring out.
