Question New guy making 300 rwhp. Want more need help.

I just found this board. I have an 86 951. Huntley Racing stage 3.5 turbo, stage 4 MAF, HR exhaust, HR hard pipe kit, Monster BOV, apexi Boost controller, fuel pressure regulator. The car makes 291rwhp on the dyno but for some reason it would only boost 1.0 bar. On the street with the same settings it boosts 1.2-1.28 bar in 4th gear but I guess the dyno will not load the car the way the street will. Anyway, I guess the car makes about 320rwhp with full boost.

I have been considering taking the boost up a little higher. This car is not a daily driver so dependability is not an issue. What is the highest you guys boost your cars? Also does anyone know how to install a regular momo shift knob in a 951. You must need a different shift stalk to mount an aftermarket shift knob to.

I have several race videos and pics of the car on my site if anyone is intrested. www.garyjavo.com

Thanks.

You're probably getting better cooling on your intercooler with the car on the road.

Welcome.....

I was running 15 psi most of the year.... I will run her at 18 psi when I get her back together.... I will probably run a couple of >20psi glory runs as well just for ****s and giggles.... but will settle back to 18 psi

Car looks very nice.

Which wastegate are you running ?

I've been running 1.1 bar for almost 2 years. Or it could be 3 years, I forget.

Alex,
Thanks, factory wastegate. Looking to upgrade so I can squeeze out a little more boost. I talked to the guy at lindsey racing about his dual port bolt on wastegate for $400. What do you recommend?

You are more than likely loosing a little boost from the stock wastegate..... The original wastegate spring will definitely have deteriorated by now.

I run a Tial 38 mm ........ as good as it gets for the same price as lindsey wants for theirs. Some run Tial 46mm but I think thats a little overkill for our applications.

I run about 18-21 depending (crappy $500 boost controller)

The highest I have run (i have similar mods but a few extras I think) is a boost spike at 24 psi

it made 355 rwhp and 400 ft lbs of tq

nice car.

you need the plastic cover for your tow hook and a splitter.

do you have chips for the car?
injectors?

What plastic cover?
I do have chips from HR.
I do not have injectors.
What would I have to do to make that much power?

The tow hook has a little black plastic cover that covers up the hole in the front bumper. You can see it nicely in your first pic........Just follow the front porsche badge....

The splitter replaces the batwing (the underbody front cover under the front bumper). The splitter also sticks out at the bottom......like a lip.

The only problem with the splitter is that its fiberglass and not many last if you drive them on the road..... Doesnt take much to crack it.....

Gary...I can't recall what huntley used as a Stage 3.5 turbo ??? 18-24 psi on stock injectors with your setup is not a good idea. At that psi it may be out of its efficiency range (any specs on that turbo), egts would rise, stock injectors would not be able to keep up regardless of what fuel pressure you throw at them..... and then BOOM. hehehe

How was that dyno sheet you ran? Was there room for tuning things ? AF ratio etc ?

I have never been a fan of your wheels but your car makes them look damn nice. Very nice ride.

Alex,
It's been a couple of years since I have done anything to the car. To be honest I built it and basically put it on the back burner while I took on a couple of new projects. Now that I am done with those I have focused back on the 951. I'm not sure of the specs on the turbo. I just remember Derreck telling me it would support up to 375 to the wheels. What kind of injectors should I get?

Chapstic,
Thanks.
I have HRE's on everything else (well almost everything else) but I couldn't bring myself to order a set for the 951. Personally I like a nice deep lip. 3" on the z, 3.5" on the viper.

I think that 55# injectors do fine up to about 350 rwhp before you would need to go bigger.

I have either seimens or delphi

Do you have an apexi avc r?
how do you like it?

what is tuning you MAF?

There is currently a groupbuy on Rennlist.com for wideband

Oh and you have some REALLY nice cars.
Are all of them yours?
Do you own a matress company?

EMW,
Yes I am running the Apexi AVCR. I think it's a good piece. I think the stock wastegate is the limiting factor. Hopefully when i get the Lindsey wastegate I will see a noticeable increase in performance. I am running the Huntley Racing MAF with their fuel computer box mounted inside and I have installed the "special" O2 sensor for their rich lean guage. I tuned the car with that stuff, took the car to the dyno and things were spot on. As far as the cars, the one's in my sig are what's sitting in the garage right now. The ones on the site are cars I currently own or have sold with the exception of my friends 996tt.

a new wategate will only help if the old one is draining boost in the higher rpms.

what kind of exhaust is it?
cat back?
from the turbo back?
after the down pipe?

Huntley Racing test pipe back to a Apexi muffler.

You need to dump the factory wastegate ASAP unless it was modified there is no way it will hold 15-18psi till redline.....forget the Lindsay and go with a Tial 38mm or 46mm....try Speed Force Racing as they sell the adapter kit to mount the Tial.

Thanks for the advise but they want $725 for the whole thing and that's more than wanted to put into it. What should I look out for with the Lindsey for $400?
