Need some info before I buy this 944 turbo
A buddy of mine is going to Iraq and decided to sell his 1986 944 turbo. Im a mustang guy and I dont know squat about Porsches. Its a beautiful car with 911 rims. He has taken good care of this car but it has 225,000mi!! It runs good doesnt smoke trans feels good and suspension feels good. The interior looks good but has a few splits in the leather. Im kinda worried about the milage cause I would need this car to get back and fourh to work. I have no idea how long one of these motors will last? Being a porsche I guess that parts would be high to replace? Anyone know how much it is to have a motor rebuild? Any info on things to look out for and how much it would cost to some maimtance(timming belt etc..) would be great. Hes asking $3000 but Im sure he would take 2500 cash! Would this be a good deal?
Thanks Tyler |

Don't buy it unless you have $5K in the bank for the first year's maintenance.
No matter how good your friend is, have a pre purchase inspection done at an independent Porsche specialist before you make the deal. You would hate to lose a buddy over a car... cars are easier to replace than friends. gb

I dont care if this car breakes down the first day i buy it Im not going to loose a friend over it!! I dont have 5K to spend on 1yrs of maintenace but i dont think it would need that much work? It runs very well for the miles and hes not scared to drive it anywhere. Im going to buy it. Why not I got him down to 2 grand. Its worth double that in parts I cant loose.
