951 or S2, help me decide...

I cannot find an S2 worth buying and I'm thinking about expanding my search to a '87 or '88 951 (I want ABS). It would be around town third car, maybe drivers ed in a few years.

Which do you people prefer between and S2 and a turbo?

Is one more reliable?

I have a turbo, and I like the turbo. I have no experience with the S2.
Mine has had several upgrades, however.

Turbos can be made very powerful without spending huge amounts of money. Mine has been plenty dependable.

I drove an S2 and really liked it! BUT, I drove a 951 and LOVED it. You need to drive them both to see which one you like. I happen to love my 951!

nize, yes you can drive it every day, but i find when ever I take mine
out every idiot on the road decides to pull out in front of me, as it has
only 60k /km (36k miles) on the clock and is in as new condition I will
be in an unconsoulble condition if it gets hurt.
And i can see more out of my toyota 4x4.
btw, I envy you having such a great car from new and Seattle is
one city I must visit one day.

Safe driving
Russell

I also daily drive my 89 951, love every minute I am behind the wheel. It has been perfectly reliable, and I sit in Atlanta traffic twice a day.

I've had both now, '86 951 and now an '89 S2. For a stock daily driver around town get an S2, for a 75% highway car or track-beast get a 951. For autocross get an S2, it's very hard for a 951 to beat an S2 on the auto-x track, even a modded 951 (w/ similar tires).
But, since it's hard to find a good example, you may just want to consider either and get the nicest one you can find.
btw; my S2 has required much less maintenance than my 951 did, but it does have quite a few less miles on it.

Well, I bought an S2. The PPI called out a bad throw out bearing. After driving it home 1100 miles and taking it to my mechanic it turns out to have a bad torque tube too. $$$ is adding up already!
