951 electrical questions (prospective new owner)
Hi everyone. I went to look at an '87 951 today that I'm considering buying and i have a few questions that I could not find answers to. First, there were four small cylinders around the car, one by each wheel, they are approximately 1.5" thick and 3" long. In the front there is one above each wheel just a little bit behind where the front strut mounts on the frame. There is a bundle of wires coming out of each one, and on the passenger side the wires are exposed and spread out in a loop so that they can be seen easily. In the rear of the car the same piece appears mounted to each hub, it looks to be attached to the dust sheild and is below the calipers. Does anyone know what these are, some sort of sensor or something. One of them had the bundle of wires to it cut.
Also the car made a clicking noise upon startup, and occasionaly after, similiar to that of a relay that seemed to be coming inside the dashboard behind the clock. Does anyone know what this could be casued by, is it a common problem. Thanks in advance, any help is greatly appreciated. |

they are not in the wheel well but in the engine compartment above the wheel wells. Originally i thought they were ABS sensors but i wasnt sure if the car had ABS. Does anyone know if ABS was standard on these year cars. Is it possible that the owner cut the cables to disable the ABS for the track (dont know why he would do that). I drove the car and it didnt seem to have ABS, i was able to lock up the wheels and didnt feel any pulsing.
