Turbo Values

Hey Guys, Im looking at Turbos these days. I havent been in the market for a while and was wondering a little about Turbo values. For example the KBB seens to value these cars far below what the street prices are. Is 12-14K a good price point for an 86 Turbo with less than 60K miles and excellent condition with all service records? It seems like what the market is around here but the blue book is way low on this car. Thanks very much!

Hmmm, never seen one with such low mileage, so I don't know what it goes for. Does seem kinda high though as mileage isn't as important as condition. A good condition '88+ TurboS goes for 11-13k. As a reference point, I searched for about 9-months to find my 951 back in 1997. Looked at about 12 cars from S.F. all the way down to S.D. Finally found the best sample out of them all in my own hometown. It was an '86 951 with 120K miles. Perfect condition, no rips in leather seats, no cracks in dash. Came with optional Fuchs wheels, LSD, AC, glass Saratoga top. Got it for $7000. Be sure to do a PPI and look over the car's condition very, very closely. Mileage is almost irrelevant. They should check compression, condition of wires and hoses under the hood. Wear on clutch, brakes, tyres, TIMING BELT. Clutch is a big point as it will cost $1500-2000 to have it replaced and should be a factor in the purchase price. Timing-belt failures can cost another $1500-2000. I know a guy down south that bought an immaculate-looking '87 951, but it turned out to be a mechanical nightmare. Personally, I would've gone with something not as nice looking, but in better condition with known service history and checks out on the PPI.

thanks the car has been very well maintained with all service records going back to the beginning. I will have a PPI done for sure, but I usually like to agree on a price before I take it to the mechanics. I must admit I am having a difficult time pricing these 951's. More difficult than other cars I have bought. With the research I have done plus the market conditions, It feels like 11K would be good to offer. I wonder what others have payed. B

I bought my 951 for 4k back in February 2004. It had 151k on it and I had no records. The paint sucked, faded guards red, but I restored it nicely. I havent had any mechanical problems other than the power steering which I fixed with a rennbay kit. I use this car almost always as a daily driver unless it snows out, and I have 165k on it now. Its so good to drive these cars, but when somethin goes wrong its a PITA

an excellent '87 lists for around 11k these days. an '86 should go for a little less. the mileage can be a plus, making this car worth a bit more. however, sometimes low mileage can be a detriment, as seals will shrink and other parts (such as shocks, etc) will still need replacing after all these years. inactivity can be as much of a down-side as too much mileage. in this case, you might just have to wait on the ppi to determine what the car is really worth to you

In the April edition of Excellence magazine the latest Porsche market update was for the 924, 944, 968 series. For an 86 944 Turbo a car in excellent condtion average $9.7K, $7k for a good car, and $6.4k for a poor car. They break down the costs for all model years. It is a pretty good summary. good luck.
