Hi there ! I'm having problems with my 944 Turbo and I need a "real" answer... My car is overheating since several months ago.. I took the water pump to a shop and it was almost rebuilt (I really don't know what they made it) ... My radiator seems to be working fine since if I fill it with water, covering the outlets with the hands, then, when I remove my hands, the water seems to go out with enough force (I don't know if this can be called a "test")... all water hoses has been replaced, temp. sensors too, I've bled the system, I've removed the thermostat since I live in a country very warm in this season (Chile).. As you can see... I've made "I think" almost all that one can make to solve overheating and I've not had positive results. My questions is the next: It can a bad air/fuel mix or some other engine problem to cause an overheating problem ???.. The oil system is working fine since I've bought all the necessary parts from Pelican Parts and I've almost rebuilt my engine (all gaskets, seals, hoses, sensors, motor mounts, clutch, suspension, valve guides, etc, has been OEM replaced)... Only main bearing set which seems very good, piston rings and valves are still waiting to be replaced... Will appreciate very much your help... Pls. reply to j.urrutia@usa.ponl.com or jurrutia@clubporsche.cl Thanks, -Jorge Last edited by Oliver_951; 09-26-2005 at 09:51 AM.. |

Are your fans coming on when the temperature rises?
Car should have the thermostat installed. I don't know about this car, but a Mercedes will not cool properly without one (no kidding!). A number of years ago I was having a problem with my car wanting to overheat when going up hills at low rpm. Car would cool properly at higher rpm like on the track. I replaced the water pump and the problem went away. Evidently, the impeller had developed too much clearance between it and the pump body. This was due to corrosion increasing clearance between impeller and housing. Car has not had a cooling problem since. Do you have a proper mix of antifreeze and water? Do you have a collapsed coolant hose?

Hola Jorge ..
I'm a newbiee in this Porsche world .. but with my recently 951 I'm very concentrate in learning process. Some day some weeks ago, I still cleaning the engine room, with not totaly cold engine, try open carefully the coling system. After that issue, my 951 come to hot every time .. I check all that can suppose my mind, termo switch, fans, hoses etc, but no matter what still hot. Well, no options I go with Old Porsche Master here in Panama, and he said .. ooo so easy, proper circuit bleed, and end all your problems .. and do it with a little screw behind and under intercooler hose ( in ). Just my 5 cents ..

after replacing a cam housing gasket a couple of years ago i backed my car out of the shop and was letting it run to dry the motor after i sprayed off spilled oil on the engine. i decided to wash the car and when i got to the drivers side i looked at the temp gauge and was suprised to see it at the high normal line. i sprayed the radiator with water and jumped in the car to drive down the road and cool it off. after that i could not get the gauge to stay below the halfway point. my car had never run over the low normal line. after changing the thermostat, and the thermoswitch i noticed that when i hit the flash to pass or turn the blower motor switch from off the high and back the temp guage would jump around. i found a bad ground on the bellhousing and that fixed it.
