Interested in 951
I think its about time to make the change. I have a 944 N/A '86 that my dad bought orginally and maintained fairly well(since it still runs stock). I turned 16 a year ago, and the first car I got? The Porsche, now before you cry spoiled or whatnot, this car is far from perfect. Mechanically it idles hard, the speedometer does weird motions, and it doesn't like being pushed hard, at all. Cosmetically it looks like crap. The paint has been oxidized due to being in florida for 18 years and really looks bad up close(from 100 yards looks pimpin'.) It has been rear ended twiece, jsut enough to ruin the bumper and crush rear lights. Anyhow, suffice it to say it looks bad.
So ANYHOW, what I turned 16 I had a choice between a Infinit Q45(96 or 94 V8) that looks good AC radio new leather. You know, a real nice ride I should be proud to have. I turned it down, I can't stand the floaty ride, and the throaty V8, something about that porsche really made me smile. I talked my parents into letting me drive the porsche, 2 years of never being touched and it turned right over, just needed air in the tires and I was off to the races(Just kidding ). With a whiney AC belt at idle, no radio, semi-cold AC when it does work, and a car that looks like it was dipped in salt water, I was f***ing happy!(We replaced the clutch after 2 months of driving[it died] 2k later it runs )Now recently I inhereited 10k from my grandmother passing away, and with 2k in the bank and a steady 8 dollars an hour part time job I decided I had what I needed to make the change. The 944 N/A handles great and I love it, but I really just want more power. Not saying I am going to be racing it, but my brother drives subaru WRX '02, and every time I drive it I get so jealous of that WEEEE VROOOOOOOOOOM motion of the turbo. The sound really is addicting. WOW, I need to type less(bored at home). Finally, I want to purchase a 951, and I don't want to spend all my money because there will be need for repairs and what not. I'm not a speed demon and I don't much care for everything else, but I rreally want it to look cosmetically good. A few knicks and scratches aren't a biggie, but large dents and missing/cracked paint blotches is un attractive. Where you all come in! What can you tell me about the 951 comapred to 944 N/A, I'm not mechcanically inclined, but I do know a very good porsche mechanic(all he does infact). He gives really good deals, so I can't complain. How much should I spend? Can it be a daily driver(50 miles min)? Can it take the 95 degree summers? How does it drive in the rain, does the turbo really make it dangerous? Please, and info(if mundane or repetitive is MUCH appreciated!) |

I'd invest the money instead of spending it on a car. Higher performance vehicles, particularly older ones, can really get into your wallet.
Furthermore, if you really want to play around with one of these things, it would behoove you to become mechanically inclined or have more income.

Well, my dad did his own work on the N/A(and it stills runs so woowoo) plus he would add funds for large jobs. Besides, we know the amount to run one is expensive, the N/A was somewhat expensive, so we have a taste for it.

Good luck and enjoy it. I've had mine for 7 years and have used it for a track car and semi-daily driver.
If you perform the work on the car yourself, aside from saving money, you tend to bond with it. 2002 SLK32 AMG 1993 400E (bonded) 1980 450SL (bonded) 1987 328GTS (bonded) 1986 951 (bonded)
