Hello,
I am new to the board and new to my 87 951. While working on it I pulled one of the intercooler pipes of and it has oil in it. So looks like I need a Turbo rebuild, anyone have recommendations on an upgrade turbo for a stock 951 with chips and Lindsey wastegate. All the ones I have seen are pretty exspensive considering I can get the stock one rebuilt for $250 locally in one day. Thanks, Marshall |

Pick two: speed, reliability, cheapness.
Seriously though - what are your goals realistically? 300 hp at the wheels? 400 hp at the wheels? Instant boost response? As grommit would say... "There ain't nothing here that money can't fix" $250 for a rebuild ain't too bad, all things considered. Erick BTW - a little oil in the intercooler pipes is normal. Can I get instant boost and 300rwhp? If so what would it take?
The more I work on and drive this car the more I love it! Thanks, Marshall 87 Red 951 |

If a little oil is normal how do you know if you have too much oil leaking?
Thanks, Marshall |

A light film of oil is going to be expected. If your oil is puddling, or dripping, or heavy, then you've got a problem.
It's a judgement call, but it shouldn't be a lot of oil. |

WOW who does your rebuilds? Thats a great price. I was quoted 375 locally here in Denevr CO. But in the end mine was cracked and could not be rebuilt. So does your rebuild shop take mail-ins?

Dallas Turbo and Turbochargers.com both quoted me $275 and one day turn around.
Marshall Ps. I think I have too much oil....If I had set the intercooler pipe on its end it would have dripped oil out. |

I am in the same exaxct situation, mine blows a bunch of oil into the intercooler. And has a crack near the return pipe. But I am looking to retain the stock configuration. So I bought a user turbo from another Pelican member.

Just remember,,,the oil has to go and leave grim somewhere. Cean your intercooler when you change your timing belts. You will be amazed at how much "black crap" comes out.
Any liquid parts cleaner - Castrol super clean - flush about 3 times with water after each treatment, leave in the sun for a couple of hours or blow it out with air,,,,put a simple hair dryer on it for about 2 hours. Be careful when you pick it up; it will be TOASTY! See how your car runs. |
