Post turn signal sticking

Hello everyone new on this board:

I have been reading this section for a few months now and wondering if any one has solution for this problem.

A 1986 951 with turn signal sticking when turning left the stalk will not return. When turning right the stalk will come back to its proper position.

Thanks
Gerd

gerd,

I've had my steering wheel on and off a couple times the past few months, let me see if I can describe this--the cancellation action of the turn signals is controlled by a "arm" which extends from your steering wheel. It is inside the column and (when seated in the car) extends away from you towards the firewall. I would pull the steering wheel--takes about 10 minutes and see what is going on. To pull wheel you need a 24 MM socket/ratchet with extension, and a telescoping magnet will help. Simply pry the horn pad off with your hands(while seated in the car) put your fingers behind both edges of the horn pad, with your thumbs on the part that says "Porsche" bend the edges of the pad towards you while putting pressure on your thumbs. Once the pad is off, use your socket to remove the retaining nut, and use your magnet to get the washer(s) off. Pull the horn wire off the tab, then pull the wheel towards you--comes right off. You will see the "arm" and you can probably get a better look at whatever the arm hits to cancel the action. My guess is your problem lies there, if not, the stalk switch would be the next check. Good luck in your search.

Eric
