Is this too much $??
I have a 1986 944T. My Oil pan gasket is leaking a bit. Black Forest in San Diego quoted me 1600$ to replace it. I know the crossover is a pain but is that a fair price? The two or three people I talked to paid between 500$ to 600$ (but at a different garage).

I'm not an expert as I've never had that specific issue, but that seems very steep. If you don't get an answer here, try posting in the general 924/944/968 forum. The is a Porsche mechanic that goes by AFJUVAT floating around there.

500 - 600 sounds more like it.

Also, the '86 has a single piece crossover pipe which is supposed to be a huge pain in the ass compared to '87+ cars. That may be part of your difference as well.

Well guys I figured this was a case of Porsche mechanics thinking they are something special. It took me seven hours, even with the "big bad crossover".

And looking at it, may really not make that much of a difference when dropping the exhaust for the pan.
Looks like most of the pain in the ass part would be getting to the wastegate...
