Trans Problem just cropped up...help!

I've got an 87 951 with about 48K miles. I've had it for the last 10 years/20K miles. The transaxle was flushed and filled with Mobil 1 synthetic. Never had a problem with shifting.

Yesterday, I drive it in to work...13 miles each way. Everything is normal in the morning. On the way home, it starts getting hard to shift in the lower gears. By the time I get home, I can't find first gear at the last traffic light. No matter what I do, it is not going in to 1st. I finally get it going for the last two miles home but by the time I reach the driveway, its just about undriveable.

Any ideas where to start looking? The clutch felt normal, take-up where it should be, no slipping, and no grinding going into gears.

Thanks,

Dee

I'd start simple and take a look at your shift linkage.

With that said, I have no idea what to check for...

might be your clutch. center disk is coming apart

I thought the center disk was only an issue with NAs. I thought all turbos had spring-center clutches.

I'm with legion - check your linkage..

I have a 951 as well, and sadly my whole transmission just blew out on me about a week ago.. if you end up having to replace the whole thing (often times rebuilding is far more expensive) - i reccomend going with a good 944 S2 tranny with a LSD.. I'm deffinately enjoying the pull of that transmission alot more.... It's a costly fix either way you look at it though

Check the hyraulic fluid level in the brake resovoir. You might have a leak in the master or slave clutch cylinder. Same thing happen to me and it was leaky master clutch cylinder.

Thanks for the suggestions. Been really busy lately but I'll let you all know what I find.
