1.) Pin 16, KLR in, Ign on... steady 9.8 volts
I assume I don't need to do to 2) and 3) |
ok time for chat I am going to try the board chatroom..in 2 mins at 38 past the hour..see ya
|
Although I am finding it interesting how far the troubleshooting is going...............
check the green wire on klr pin 9. It is a shielded wire. Check if its loose or shorting. Your signal is more than likely getting messed up there. also common for it to get messed up at the DME connector as well.......... Have a good weekend guys. |
MC you on line if so how did it go ?
|
For all those interested the blue line is pens 9 and 16 jumpered and the red line is the the DME signal at the coil. The previous image was grounded using pen 10 as a ground on the KLR plug instead of pen 20. Bottom line is there is spark now - actually there was spark as soon as SK suggested removing the KLR and jumpering pens 9 and 16. I wasn't using the right ground.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1162085157.jpg I checked the signal @ fuse 34 and it was flat 9.8 volts as soon as I turned the ignition on. Also, I'm not hearing the fuel pump come on even if I remove the DME relay and jump 30 and 87b so maybe tomorrow I'll have a look |
Hey MC good to hear you got spark.. the voltage if you are jumping pin 30 mto 87b should be 12 Plus volts 9.8 is low. Is your scope calibrated right see what it says your car battery is...
|
I've got power at the fuel pump but the pump doesn't run.
I only get spark when I jumper out the KLR Does this mean I need (minimally) a new fuel pump/filter(obviously) and KLR? |
looks like it. There is power right at the pump ? and a good gnd ? if so pump is toast. You can make sure that the klr is getting power pin 6..and gnd pin 20, but other then that it replacement time. (:

As I mentioned 9-16 pin takes the KLR out of the loop for testing........ but the one thing you have to take a good luck at before you start replacing the KLR is the harness. The pins come loose. When the KLR gets pushed in the pins pop out (shift). Other times the KLR being pushed in causes the wires to short on the ground shielding. |
If youre using the Parallax scope to do voltage, it can only do 10 volts peak to peak (so -10 to +10) and thus wont show 12 volts, so that could be the source of the 9.8 volts.
If youre using a multimeter, 9.8 is low unless thats cranking. |
