Low Boost
I have a recently purchased 1987 Turbo 944 which is intermittently (50% of the time) only producing 1.2 - 1.3 Bar boost instead of the usual 1.8. Is this likely to be caused by the cycling valve and if so can I replace it with a non porsche part? Sorry if the question is dumb as I am new to turbo engines.

You should read some of the old posts on the CV, waste gate and KLR etc. on this board (use the search function). I know this sounds tedious but it will help you understand how the car's boost sytem works. Then you can ask better questions

its going into 'limp home mode'. you need to build a simple LED diagnostic and it will tell you what is failing when it does that. i am putting my money on a loose electrical connection at the cycling valve and/or knock sensor, or a bad knock sensor.
