Nice 86 951 on Autotrader
I emailed the seller on this one:
http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?car_id=217275973 said he has the receipt for a clutch change at 50,000K. How long before it needs a new clutch? Car looks pretty clean. What do you guys think? Cory |

Hard to tell from those photos. Mileage is low though.
Clutch life is highly dependant on the driver. I replaced the original clutch in my '86 951 at 154,000 miles. I've seen some people burn through them in 50,000 miles. The fact that the original clutch went out at 50,000 miles is not a good sign for the skill level of the original owner.

haha - Im getting ready to install my 3rd clutch in my 951.
1st @ 45k, 2nd @ 97k and now @ 131k. Feels fine but the motor is coming out so a cup clutch is going in...

PPI, Here we go again
Seller is willing to take it in for a PPI. He is out of town next week, so looks like I'll wait a little bit. Has been pretty forthcoming on the car in our email exchange. Looks like a nice one, but crap they all do to me!
I need someone to hold my hand Barney style through this stuff, good grief! Cory |

Like the color combo, LSD trans? my '87 had the clutch done around 40k from vibration problems starting around 3,000mi from the first owner. I'm guessing you might do a little better than the 9k asking price, sounds like you CA guys get a lot of nice used P-cars!

There is a clutch wear indicator that is easy to check from under the car on a PPI (for an experienced Porsche mechanic). My car has the original clutch at 125K, works fine even at the track. Again my reminder that an '86 has no ABS (don't know if they have airbags, also unsure if they have early or late offset wheels). I would probably offer $7,000 and expect to pay $8,000 although that might still be too much. Make sure timing and balance belts with water pump have been done (relatively) recently or add $2000 to the expected cost of ownership. If I were going to pay $9000 I would expect cosmetic near perfection.
