Exhaust Question

I just replaced my stock exhaust with a cat back and borla round straight thru muffler. It seems not that the car has gotten slower and quieter than the stock muffler. Any ideas/thoughts?

Thanks

Oops! Sorry. I wasn't even drinking.

The car has gotten slower and quieter than with the stock muffler on. It is a Borla catback system for the 944 Turbo,

well that could mean that it could be the cat that was used is far to restrictive. or the one you removed was blown out so it was not nearly as restrivetive. adn as nize asked why did you replace the cat back? why not do the entire exhaust system?

Didn't do whole system cause didn't want to spend that much money. The carback system I bought was originally $900. Got it for real cheap. I have decided to remove the muffler altogether. Will see how that goes today. Anyone want to buy a Borla 944 turbo straight thru muffler?

which model number is the borla? is it 3"?

i don't think the problem is the muffler, i think the problem is the cat.

Reaplacd the catback cause I wanted more sound for the track. The car was very quiet. The stock number for the muffler is 15313. It was discontinued in 2001 but if you call Borla they'll tell you about it.

i'd put the stock system back on. the stock setup is a straight-through pipe with no restrictions that's been tuned for the motor by porsche engineers.

from a performance standpoint, the only reason to replace any of the stock exhaust plumbing is if it's either broken, or you're going to a bigger system.

It's about being able to hear the car while going 120 mph with a helmet on and the windows wide opened on a track. The performance is fine, thanks.

Coudl have been the lack of a gasket betweenthe catback and the cat pipe. Mechanic said probably not alower just feels slower cause quieter. it does feel quicker now.

Was tossing around the idea of getting it dynoed. Where can I have this done? any idea on what the cost would be?

look up 'dyno' in your local directory or better yet, ask the guys at the track where they get their cars dyno'd. here's one i found in your area, don't know if they're any good;

Pendola Diagnostic Services Inc
185 Street Nicholas Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11237
(718) 497-2573
