Headgasket time!

I bought my 951, November of 2006... the guy said that it has an exhaust leak and a very small oil leak...

An exhaust stud is broken off in the head, the oil is leaking from both the lower balance shaft cover and the oil pan gasket.

Today, a friend came over and helped me remove the head...

Along the way various peices of 20 year old plastic vacuum lines were snapped and some were simply found broken without even being disturbed. Guess it was good I went in there, right?

In attempting to remove the cam tower, i managed to forget a bolt... i looked over it a few times but kept missing the one in the middle... SNAP! A section of my cam tower is broken off now... BUT! All is not lost! I picked up a seized 944 NA engine from an 84 a couple years ago... the great thing about that is, it has the same part number as the turbo cam tower (if im not mistaken). I'm going to double check some things and then swap over the camshaft.

The two bolts that go through the head and into the block which help seal the water jacket towards the front of #1 cyl both broke. Yay for water and rust. That'll be extracted soon.

The most disturbing part out of this whole job, you can faintly see the crosshatches in the cylinders (not the disturbing part), and then there's a wear mark where something got stuck between the cylinder and the wall and rubbed it wrong. You can feel it with your finger...

So with all this going crazy like that, the car would drive like a champ. It's got the autothority stage 2 chips... great chips! But aside from that, in the condition that the car was, i can only wonder how it'd work in a car that was up to specs and didn't have broken vacuum lines or groves in the cylinder walls...

aye...

work work work. Time for the head to go in the shop and get worked a bit.

I'll be going with a wide fire ring headgasket kit.... im sure you were wondering...

the widefire gasket is designed for motors with an o-ringed head. if you do not have an o-ringed head, the widefire gasket is a waste of money and not necessary.

stay with the stock 951 headgasket. they are good for 350whp easy. with autothority stage2 chips you are putting down no more than 280whp at best, anyway.
