My issue was just a lack of understanding. Now that I know mine are all but useless, are all of the low impedence injectors plug and play or do they require resistors? Also, if I put my stock chips back in, does anyone think my car would be driveable despite the mods? I'm guessing it would run and not really be driveable due to the cam and lack of fuel supply.
as far as i know, the low-impedence injectors are plug-and-play without the need for resistors.
i'm also guessing that your car would be drivable as long as you restore the original injectors. |
well I have the stock ones in there right now so I guess I'll find out tonight when I swap out the chips. Thanks for all of the help, I'll keep this thread updated.
So I put the stock chips back in and it started right up and idled fine. It sounded pretty good but a lot of noise IMO. My A/F gauge says I'm still lean. My wastegate dump pipe is not connected to my exhaust pipe, and my WBO2 sensor is located behind that point. So could that be confusing the whole system? I'm guessing I'll need to tune it with the MAFterburner software before I can rev it up etc?
good to hear. if you look at the stock location for the o2 sensor, you will see it's after the wg and before the turbo. i've simply replaced mine with a wideband in the same bung with no problems.
you should definitely tune before revving unless you enjoy knock. :) |
I might do that, why would they say to install it after the merge?
who's 'they'?
The instructions that came with my Innovate kit
maybe they meant 'after the merge' meaning 'don't install it in the individual exhaust runners before the merge because then you won't get the combined afr reading' ?
Well I'll see how it goes once I get to the fine details later, either way I need to connect my dump pipe so that's the first step. I'm just waiting for my serial-to-usb adapter to come in the mail so I can upload a tune to my MAFterburner. The cable from LR was useless because my laptop does not have a serial port, has anyone else used a USB adapter with the MAFterburner setup?
word of caution on the usb to serial converters, some of them do not supply all the voltages needed to properly run a serial port. So if yours is not working you may have to add a 9V battery to it.
Sox |
sox is correct. i've had many usb>serial adapters fail to work in the past.
So the usb>serial adapter was a bust. I finally got my hands on a laptop with a serial port and loaded a basic tune today. It loaded easily but now the car is back to not idling, it fires up and dies off. I'm pretty sure I can't reset the MAFterburner to the way it was before the tune. This is my first experience with the MAFterburner setup/software so if there are any gurus here that know how I can get it back to idling and work from there, I'm all ears.
the exact same maf system can behave differently on different cars, which is why it's not really possible to share one tune between many cars like you can with a map system.
was this car ever running correctly before you took it apart? maybe this can help? http://tinyurl.com/27uexy myskyon on here is a local 951 buddy who is successfully running the lindsey maf with mafterburner. i'll ask him to post. |
myskon and I have been talking, I got the tune from him (he's been a huge help). Is the power perfect setup superior to the MAFterburner? I wasn't sure how the software interacted with the MAFterburner console but I've now been told that it's a live feed as long as I have the car connected to the computer. I'm assuming that the Super 75 is leaning out the stock injectors so I'm going to try going more rich accross the board and hope that will at least get it idling where I can dial it in closer.
how would the size of the turbo have any effect on the idle? the turbo isn't spooling at idle. :)
i really don't know much about the power perfect or the maf system, as it's never really interested me. :) perhaps give lindsey a call? and was the car running before you tore into it? |
But the air going into the manifold still has to pass through the turbo, I was thinking that if the MAF is not dialed in, the greater volume of the Super 75 would simply be allowing too much air into the engine. The car was running fine when we took it apart, but obviously a lot has changed since then.
there is no greater volume when the turbo isn't spinning !
interesting, well I'm going to play with the software and see what happens
So after some digging, I found out that my TPS wire to the MAFterburner was not properly connected. I fixed the connection and it immediately was able to hold a steady idle and rev up (although I'm on stock injectors so the reving is extremely limited). Does anyone have an innovate A/F gauge (w/WBO2)? I had no problem with the calibration but I feel like now that the engine is running, I'm not getting much feedback from the gauge but I've never used it before so maybe I just don't know what I'm looking at.
