1991 944 Turbo S opinions?

Hi guys.

Looking for another 944 to replace my written off 87 944 S (not my fault) and I've spied a lovely looking black 91 Turbo S. Totally unmodified, M30 spec, the whole shebang and a reasonable price. The only thing putting me off is the mileage. There's 160,000 on the clock.

Seller states there is extensive service history with 2 books full and a folder of reciepts. Just recently serviced aswell.

So what do you think. Would you say there's plenty of life left in the engine? I just don't want to buy and then spend half as much on a rebuild.

Thanks in advance.

There are people on this board with 200,00 plus miles on their cars. Mine is 210,00. No major problems. I have had it since new. Get a ppi and do your home work. It should be fine.

if it doesn't leak or smoke when started/driving and not much else found on ppi, i wouldn't worry too much.

mine has 220k miles and runs better than ever.

just make sure it's a real factory 91 model and not a custom hack job. sounds like it may be a good deal if it's real but i've seen my share of 87-88 car owners with some s-mods claiming theirs was the turbo-s.

Sorry, my confusion.

Turbo S is 88-89 correct. Then afterwards all turbos had the same 'S' spec but lost the 'S' designation?

Thanks for the advice so far. Think I will go ahead with the HPI as it looks a beauty. And I'm lusting for the boost!

actually, the turbo-s is only 88, because in 88 they also had the non-s. 89 and up are automatically turbo-s models, but were not specifically called 'turbo-s' from the factory.

89 was the last model year for us-destined 951's.
91 was the last model year for europe.
