led blink code tester

I have had a couple of folks ask for this so first attempt.
To connect a diagnostic LED on the 951 you have two options for where to connect and also the choice for location of the LED is up to you. You will need a standard 5V 20miliamp LED any color you like. (Radio shack has them). You will also need a 330 Ohm ¼ or 1/8 watt resistor. (Orange Orange Brown bands on it). Connect the resistor to the anode of the LED (this is the longer pin on the LED). You can connect to either side but I like to use the anode.

This is the basic blink code flasher LED that we all talk about and use.
Now the connection. You can connect it to the diagnostic port in the car (on the driver side fire wall) See pic 1.
You can also connect to the KLR connector C to pin 3 of the KLR connector and A to pin 6 See pic 2.
You can connect it into the KLR it self as I have done. See pic 3.
Where you mount the LED is up to you in my case I have mounted it on a board that also has O2 and knock sensor output on it. The whole thing lives in my glove compartment.
One further point if you hook it up to the diagnostic port in the engine bay you will have to route the wires into the car some how. Watch out for causing water leaks.

Thanks Soxnail, http://forums.pelicanparts.com/suppo...s/beerchug.gif I will try this today and report back.

Well this went smoothly. Did it just like Sox said, (except I used an LED with built in resistor, see pic) LED red wire to KLR pin 6 (big 2.5mm BK/YE wire) and LED black wire to KLR pin 3 (.75mm GN wire). Mounted the LED next to my W/B display.

Started the car and pulled the TPS sensor plug, LED blinked 4-1 code :)

Unfortunately now when the car warms up it dies. The joys of playing around with 20 year old wiring and computers.

I’ve isolated the problem to two areas; will probably start a new thread latter to confirm my ideas on this.

Thanks again Soxnail for doing this write-up.

Yet another great idea!

there's some really in-depth discussion, and how to make an easy knock-counter/blink code led that plugs into the inside diagnostic port and is removable here;
