Can DME/KLR connectors be disassembled?

Well just as the title states, can they (the plugs at the DME/KLR)? If so how?

I’m chasing down what I believe to be two separate issues, one with the temp switch (NTC II, per factory manual) and the other an intermittent with a connection between the DME/KLR (suspecting the wiring between pins 9/16).

I would like to visually inspect all wires where they connect to the pins inside the plugs. Last week I removed the little screw on the side of the DME plug and tried to see if something would loosen up but was unsuccessful. I hate to put too much force on these plugs and break them.

Thanks in advance.

Sox, my car is an '89 (don't know if the plugs are different on the earlier models).

Just to make sure we are on the same page;

The back of the plug (the shell) is one piece (where the wires go in, has a rubber boot) & has a small screw on the side. I've cut the zip tie around the rubber boot and pushed it off the shell into the wires. I also removed the small screw. The inside of the plug (where the pins are) has a rubber gasket around the pins (all this is recessed into the shell). When you say "slide" do you mean the wires just push thru the shell?

IIRC, there are a couple of plastic tabs molded into the inside part of the plug, by the gasket. Do they need to be depressed?

Sorry I can't post pics but I only have access to my car during the weekend (and then I won't have access to a computer). I'm gathering up a troubleshooting list so I can take care of the no start issue this weekend even if I have to spend the night with the car in the garage

The shell just slides along the cable harness, leaving the actual wiring and part of the molex with the pins in it.

All I did was remove the screw, and slid the shell down the harness. Mine is an '86, and I don't recall having to do anything with any tabs, just the screw.

Well guys I’m feeling a bit lost right now. Had no problem taking the DME plug apart (sorry for the blurry pic) but can’t figure out how to disassemble the KLR plug.

The shell is one piece, I removed the small screw and placed a screwdriver into where the harness goes in the back of the shell and applied quite a bit of force with no luck. The way my luck is running I didn't want to over do it and break the plug.

Can anyone shed more light into this?

TIA

After removing the small screw on the KLR connector, grab all the wires and push them into the connector. It should free itself and come apart.

the klr plug actually comes apart through the front, where the connectors are. so like aribop says, push the wires further inwards, and it will come out through the other side.
