Power Steering Resaviour (SP)

one of the 2 lines that go into the power steering tank is leaking badly at the base. im hoping that tightening it up a little will stop it but if it doesnt, how had is it to replace the hose because it looks like it has a special adapter on it where it dissapears near the intercooler

Thank you

Ok the return line itself is the culprit. i tried to remove the last half inch of the damaged hose that connects to the reservoir. i didnt realize that the diameter inside the last inch is different that the rest of the hose... so its hooked up... but tearing the end of the hose its so tight. so i can replace the return line, or i can buy a hose thats right for the reservoir and use an adapter to connect it the old hose. also looks like if the line is changed ($183.00) i may require special tools for crimping. anyone else replaced this line? Any idea how much pressure those lines are under because it may not work with an adapter or converter

Thank you

reading this made me laugh, because i went through this exact same replacement earlier this year.

because i got tired of having to constantly replace this hose, i decided to try doing this job once and no more. so i went to a special hydraulics hose shop and obtained a 3 foot length of some super hydraulic fluid/pressure/oil/heat/fire/etc. resistant hose, i think it was half inch diameter but don't quote me on this.

this hose was so awesome it doesn't even flex under pressure, and then i found out that each end of the stock hose are different diameters. (here's the laughing part.)

my solution was to take a file and file off some of the plastic 'neck' at the connector on the bottom of the reservoir. haven't needed to replace the hose since.

be careful with the file, as the plastic stuff is bakelite, and can be very brittle.

the problem seems to come in where the entire rest of this 180.00 part... is perfect. if all i have done is removed the last half inch of the rubber hose that goes back into the reseviour. honestly i hadnt considered the filing method but that it is a good idea.

all that metal collar is, is a fancy hose clamp. just cut the collar and peel it off, and replace the hose with a new hose and hose clamp. when cutting the collar, be careful not to cut too deep or you will cut into the metal pipe underneath.

similar to this, but instead of the banjo bolt you have the hard metal line;

good deal. it's still really an easy job to do yourself. a friend even cut his metal collar off using pliers.
