good deal. make sure you use the JE forged 2618 aluminum pistons and not the weaker 4032.
who's doing the machine work? post up some pics!

I was glad to see this thread---
I too, will be joining the fun in using Darton MIDs, but they'll be in my 928 stroker engine going together (hopefully) some time later this year. By my calculations, I may get near 511 cubic inches----although most of the naysayers aren't so sure. They're stuck on stuff like cooling, not enough space....the usual stuff. In the 928 block (yours is half of it) you have 4.8625 in bore centers, allowing a piston diameter of 4.5625 in. (siamesed liners with .150 in walls) That, with a 4 inch stroke would give me what I'm looking for----- ![]() Glad to hear of your success. --Russ

Its good to hear your motor is running strong. Ive been hesitant to sleeve our Al blocks for a street car. I know many reputable people who say theyre great. My builder recommends against it tho. So really wasnt even an option for my 3.0, the cylinder walls in the s2 block was flawless anyway. Ive been interested in seeing how far one goes as a street car.

that's promising. My Darton setup began a lonnnnng time ago but is finally coming to a close. The guys at Motorwerks Racing have been great. They got it up and running (after replacing a problematic wiring harness and dealing with some oil pressure issues) and drove it around on the street. Unfortunately the MAFterburner box wasn't accepting the live inputs while they were trying to dial it in on the dyno so we're waiting for LR to fix/replace the box.
Glad to hear yours has done so well for you, I had no idea that others had gone this route since the last time I researched the topic.

Did Bob B do your machining and sleeve install Nize? Great to hear that you have had no problems with the motor. We've got two blocks with sleeves in them that are large paperweights.
How's the new head going? Have you had it dyno'd now? |

bob b did not do the machining, a local machine shop did.
sorry to hear about your sleeved motor paperweights, it seems there are a lot of failed darton sleeved 951 motors because the machine shops were perhaps unfamiliar with the execution. a good machine shop is critical! i am still in the process of tuning for the new head. no dyno yet, but it's getting close. i've also found i'm now getting 5psi of boost at around 2krpm with the same turbo! i'll have a more thorough writeup regarding the new head as soon as i've completed tuning.

Yes seems like that's the likely suspect in all our failures, however we were not totally convinced that the JEs and the MIDs were the best of bedfellows, yet I believe you have JEs so perhaps there goes that theory.
5psi at 2k on what sized GTBB? I was told my BWarner saw 14psi at 2800rpm on the engine dyno. Equivalent to a GT35 in size. Are you running E85 yet? |

i do have JE pistons. the machine shop is the difference. the machinist i used has already built over a dozen 951 motors, years before mine, and none have failed.
the turbo is a 50trim, #10 hotside garrett double ball bearing turbo. writeup here; turbo upgrade - pauer tuning no e85 yet. that comes after i get the 92octane gasoline tune completed. ![]()

Cool. Nice to see someone enjoying success with a decently modified 951. What might be interesting apart from dyno graphs, is 100-200kmh times which should play into the hands of such a beast. I think that's about 62-120mph. It's an industry standard in Europe, UK, OZ etc
eg Duke claims 7.6 secs w his 2.5L 8v GT3582. This sort of time is good as it's real world, and doesn't require you to fry the clutch or worse for a 1/4 mile time. |

Nize,
That is a great spooling turbo. Myself, with my custom Holset turbo can only muster about 2-3 psi at 2k (5 psi is ~ 2300rpm). I just checked it yesterday in 4th. One thing I did realize is that getting boost at 2k really isn't that important as that is a real lugging rpm. I do get a full 15 psi at 2900 rpm though and 25 psi ~3400. To me this setup feels very strong. Anyway, very nice write-up and very nice results as always. I like that you put your info out there to compare against with logs to prove it. It has helped me greatly to try to get my setup as efficient as possible. Thank you

25psi at 3400 is very impressive Sid. That must give you a nice slam right there. Do you have any traction issues? How bout you Nize, how's your traction?
