951 suspendsion, coilovers front&rear?

I rolled my 86 951 2 months ago. I found a clean 87 951 with a lower end knock. I am going through this entire car. Motor , interior, and color change. My 86 was black on black, and this one will be. the 87 is an odd forest green, yes its a factory color. yuck!! well* I just thought I would inform you on what I am doing. What* Iam interested in is a coilover system front and back. The car is a shell right . The 87 came with a very new set of Koni adjustables all the way around. I don't plan on keeping them. I do plan on removing the rear torsion bar.* I will be mostly using this for the street,And Some track days in the future. This is not a car I will drive alot,* I only put about 2k miles on the 86 a year.* What Iam getting at is I won,t mind if its stiff. Just not hard core racing stiff.* Any sugestions?* I also dont want to spend more than $2500. Less would be great.Alittle info on the 86 951.** I did a lindsey 340whp kit 2years back and was trouble free. Last fall I switch to a solid lifter head with new cam.* Wow It made a big difference. I did not get to dyno it but I will . I am shooting for sometime in January. I have alot of work to do and more money to spend.

Coil Overs

Take a look at the Bilstein Escort Cup packages from Lindsey Racing. They are offered with or without camber plates etc. If you remove the rear torsion bar dont forget to upgrade the bushs otherwise the rear could start to "swim" around. This is well within your budget.
Have fun
PS Dave Linsey can give you tips on spring rates etc. It depends on what you intend on doing with vehicle.

I have no experience with other strut/shock packages, but I opted to stick with Koni's and bought my setup through Ground Control. For less than $1900, I got the following, shipped:
1) Front strut mounts with an adjustable height collar allowing 4" of height adjustment. These strut mounts are specific to the 951 and include the brackets for the brake cooling shield, the brake pad sensor and the brake line.
2) Koni dual-adjustable race inserts (which are just fine for street when you turn them down) - note: single-adjustable is standard, getting dual-adjustable cost me a little extra, which is partially why my total came to much more than the link.
3) Eibach 440# springs
4) Camber Plates
Note: 1-4 come completely assembled and ready to simply mount. No special tools or spring compressor was needed, I simply removed my M474 setup and installed these.
5) Rear Koni shocks, adjustable, with extra hardware (additional $) so that I could convert to coil-overs in the rear at a later time. This includes the extra-heavy-duty mounting bolt required for a coilover setup.
6) New rear eccentric bolts - allows for slightly more lowering than the stock eccentric bolts
A spanner wrench for the adjustment of the collars on the struts was also included.

Before the extras I added, this is the base package:

I love the setup. I have spent two track days at Laguna-Seca with it and had a blast. Very responsive and still fairly well balanced. I can't compare it to anything else but the stock setup on my 996 c2 which I have also run at Laguna-Seca twice, but it is worlds better than my 996. The car is still fairly well balanced, even though I know I eventually need to go a little stiffer on the rear spring setup to compensate for the stiffer fronts.

I also seriously considered the spec setup from Paragon Products for $1763. It includes bigger sway bars and a rear torsion bar upgrade as well, seems like a very nice value, and they offer 400# springs for the front with that setup. It does not have the higher-quality Koni's that I got, and it doesn't set you up for a more seamless transition to rear coil-overs, but it is a very good value.
