only 1600 rpm?
Hello,
I have a '86 944 turbo. All of the maintenance is current. I do not drive this car too often. Today when I went out to take it for a drive, I could only get about 1600rpm then the engine cut out, started firing again and cycled up to 1600 rpm and ..... it pulses like this no mater how much throttle I give it? I let it warm up until the fan came on and it did the same cycle up to 1600rpm cut out and start firing, It idles fine. Got any Ideas? I would like to drive this to the mechanic but not with a 1600rpm cutout. Thanks |

Most likely a bad throttle position sensor (TPS). To check, simple unplug it and see if it will go above 1600. With the TPS unplugged, the idle will fluctuate and it's not recommended to do any full throttle or aggressived driving since the DME won't be getting any throttle position feedback.

Also check all your intake hoses from the air filter box to the throttle body. Any air leak on the intake line will let too much air in with out going through the air metering valve (Air Filter Box)
