How to install and why you should use them.

if you don't know, you don't need it.

Do a search for "Catch Can" and you should be able to figure this out.

Alright after researching again... Couldnt find anything on this site under "Catch Can" besides people mentioning it for sale

So it basically cleans the recirculated air/oil vapor from the crank case at high boost? So how would we really not need this... seems like it would help keep the engine clean and provide fresher air entering into the engine. Plus it dosent seem like an expensive addition? nize, am i right or missing something?

Catch cans condense oil vapor sucked out of the crankcase. This vacuum is done by plumbing the crankcase vent into the j-boot, pre-turbo. The advantage of sucking out the oil vapor is that it reduces pressure buildup in the crankcase and also removes flammable vapors from the crankcase. The downside is that this oil vapor actually lowers the octane of your fuel. What the catch can does is condense the oil in the vapor mixture so you are essentially getting a relativley clean air charge while still pulling vacuum on the crankcase.

There are a ton of options available, however i think staying away from the vent to atmosphere type breathers should be avoided. This is because you do not pull a vacuum on the crankcase which can lead to things like your dipstick blowing out under high boost (very typical especially with cars that have weak rings). A recirculation type is the way to go.

This is the one i have on my car.. i am very happy with it. Installation is very easy if you have a MAF, as you can put it right where the airbox used to go. If you still have the factory airbox you will just have to find another spot to mount it.

as far as bang-for-buck goes, it's not really worth it.

looks like its more of a preventive type of accessory. Grated it wont make your car run faster but would it make your engine last longer? Keeping oil vapor and gunk out of it

my first 951 drove over 170k miles and 16+ years without any problems, and is still running great. my current 951 got a custom build after over 220k miles (it could have 'lasted' a lot longer if i wasn't aggressively seeking more power).

how much longer do you want your engine to last?

i'm not saying this isn't a worthwhile mod, i'm just trying to point out that it's not really a necessary one for most people, and certainly not the first mod a 951 owner should be considering.

the motor head steam vent is a much more worthwhile first-timer mod, in my opinion.
