Look over my tech writeups
I'm making a website kind of like Clark's Garage. I'm not trying to replace his site, just add another place to look up things. I'm trying to take more pictures in my tech articles, which is pretty much the only downside of Clark's page.
Anyway, some of my articles are not finished, as I'm in the middle of a rod bearing replacement. So, many of my writeups don't have the "put back together" aspect. There's also some grammatical errors I am having issues with. Just curious to see what people think. www.texasblake.com/porsche/ |

I've seen your posts on 944online before. I used to be a member there but got irritated (another story). Your site looks good, and the proceedures I glanced at looked good. I definitly like the pictures, good quality, and very usefull. Since I also have an '86 951 your site will come in handy. Do you ever use the ratchet style box wrenches? I've got a set and find them usefull in the tight spaces of the engine.
Keep up the good work, I'm sure I'll use a lot of your posts and information.

good work, i especially like the detailed high-resolution photos.
one suggestion is to list the tools required for each job, so that do-it-yourselfers would know what they're getting into before they get to the point where they require some oddball tool (cheesehead bolt?) and realize they don't have one! ![]()

Yeah, I'd like to do that.
However, I didn't start doing most of the writeups until a few weeks AFTER I had everything taken apart. So, I pretty much forgot everything. Whenever I get everything put back together, and I update the site for re-assembly, I will try and come back to add that detail. Seems like most everything uses 10, 12, 13, 15, 17, 18, 19 but need to make note of all the big oddball stuff like the 22 and 24 that I had to run down to VatoZone and buy at 9pm. Eventually, I'll have a page just dedicated to tools. Talk about specific good tools like cheesehead, hex, random big stuff, as well as my favourite tool the Power Probe for electrical diagnosis. Great site. You might consider adding to clark's garage information...see if you can add your pictures to his stuff. Also, you mention that the Porsche Factory 944/951 manuals are no longer available, actually, I just purchased a set from Sunset Porsche last summer for about $150, including the turbo supplement.

I hate those stupid "Cheese head bolts". Finally figured out you need an impact driver to make those loosen. I got exactly two off this evening and the impact driver broke. It was a junk one from Harbor Frt. I prefer the pilot hole and second bit method now. Got the others out in short order by drilling the heads off. Clutch is off, short block is mounted to the engine stand. Now to the good stuff.
As for short ratchet wrenches; I had to buy a 14 & 15 to get the turbo off a while back. Handy tools for sure. |

The manuals on your site are MONEY! I've found many places to download them but the turbo supplement is ALWAYS corrupt. Yours is working. Very nice. Very nice.

Nice site. You should should make the text size in the table on the left side bigger though.
