Fuel Line Leak... Need Help w/ Plumbing.. Pics!

So my hard fuel line had a bunch of pin holes in it due to rust so I cut out the section that was rusted to hell (I'm gonna cut off more than the pictures display) and now I need to patch in a small section of line.

My question is what is this critter? Is it a double bubble flare fitting? Where can I get this peice of brass? For the other side can I just attach it with compression fittings?

Thanks,
Beefey

Haven't seem this before, might want to check PET for the part number. Another alternative is lindseyracing.com has a full fuel line kit.

Damn I just bought the LindsayRacing fuel rail gauge. I like the setup from PauerTuning better.

Oh I am feeling better and better. Just for grins and giggles... since the install it hasn't been driven. Started up after install, but that's it. I'm thinking about returning now.
So now that I know you went through 2 LindsayRacing gauges, what do you have or suggest now.

I really cannot justify over $100 for line. All I am really looking for is to patch up the rusted out line (it's about a 8" section) and the rest is good. I just need to find this fitting and flare the other end of the hard line. Should I go to Porsche? I just dont wanna show up and pay $20 for a fitting that I can get at the hardware store for $1.

Thanks for the input and links guys!

Damn! My eagerness got me going the wrong direction again. I'm going to attempt to return my gauge set up. Got any pix of how you connected your remote mount gauge?

the electronic sensor mounts in the same hole tapped at the end cap on the fuel rail. then you run a wire from there to where ever you want to mount the actual gauge. i chose to mount it on the steering column, but will soon get rid of the gauge altogether and input it directly to the wolf EMS. then i could datalog the fuel pressure and stuff.

photos of the steering column mount here;

I tried to track down this freek fitting and line with no resolve. So far I have found the line to be around 5/16" with bubble flare and the fitting to be 1/2" NPT. The people at autozone simply looked at me in awe but that was not unexpected.

So where do I go for this?
Does that sound right for the dimensions of the line?

i really think you should reconsider your decision to try to cheap out on this project, if it fails you'll be facing a fuel fire and can kiss the car goodbye.

spending $135 for a complete fuel line replacement kit that you know works is pretty cheap compared to an engine fire.

The line aft of the rear wheels is in nearly perfect shape! I don't see a need to go with new stuff there and moreover this car isn't worthy of braided lines. Steel will do the trick just as well imho.

Maybe in the future when I have some cash to burn but tuition for next semester is more pressing than this right now.

So I checked with pauer tuning as recommended by Nize. Their kit is only the section of line that connects to the rail. I'm looking for the return line that goes to the fuel tank. The fitting is the one that connects to the rubber line going into the fuel tank.

This problem is still unsolved. I called a few clutch and U-joint specialty places with no luck.

Scott,

It looks like you will be needing to replace the hard line section on the return side. I believe that this line runs the length of the car.

The other option you face is to get an 8mm compression type coupler to bridge where the hard line is broken. Problem is, your hard line break is so close to the hose end fitting that you would not be able to use the remaining portion of the line for a coupler since it is so stubby.

Your going to need a longer section of hard line that is flared for factory threaded nut. I'm not sure if hard line sections are available from Porsche. If you're able to get a section of hard line with the threaded from a parted car, I think the compression coupler would be the cheapest option.

I could easily put new 5/16" line into the place where I cut the old stuff out I just need that fitting that goes into the soft fuel tank return line. Porsche only sells the whole length for nearly $100.

My fitting is toast unless I can weld on some type of new head or maybe grind it to the next size down.

This is exactly my point.

The factory hard line is flared at the end. The threaded fitting on the hard line will not slide off - this is a metric setup. So, rather than having to purchase the whole length of hard line at $100+ dollars, you could pick up a small 5"-6" end piece section of pipe off of someone who is parting a 944/951. This section of pipe would require the threaded hose fitting. I'm sure you could get a piece like this for pretty cheap off someone here on Pelican. All that you would need is an 8mm compression coupler that would connect your existing hard line in the car to the new section hose that will screw directly into the flex / rubber line that connects to the tank.

Even if you wanted to replace the whole line with a 5/16 sized pipe, you won't be able to find a threaded end piece that will screw into the flex or rubber line.

Oh yea! My bad digit salad, 5/16" is off of 8mm by like 3 thousandths, no good. Yep I think your idea is perfect Pauerman. Let the hunt begin!
