cluster swap
got a new cluster from a turbo S (180 speedo) i plug it in and there is an oil level light come on. i pull the bulb but still the exclamation lights up. anything I can do to fix this besides pulling the bulb or is that the only way? and the odometer doesn't work so it definetly has to come back out to be repaired. i may practice first on the original cluster and see what it is (since the speedo was inop on it).
OR......................could i use the odometer out of the 86(160 speedo) and put that in the newer cluster (180speedo) or would that screw up the speedo?

your first solution to fixing a warning light is to remove the bulb?
![]() how about fixing the oil level sensor so it doesn't throw a fault in the first place? or maybe put some oil in the car if it's low on oil?

Do you want to have the same number of miles? If so, just manually change the miles. It takes 10 seconds for each number row. I set my '86 to 000,000 when I bought it. |

geez, come on guys, i'm not that dumb...lol my car doesn't have a level sensor, its an 86. there is no sensor on the pan and the old cluster didn't have a spot for the bulb anyway. i was just want to still be able to use the warning light (!) incase of REAL emergency. the mileage this is this- bought the new cluster cuz my speedo didn't work on the old cluster BUT the odomeyter did. now with the new cluster, i have a working speedo but no working odometer. can I use 2 to make 1 good one i guess is the question.

If it's just the odometer gear that's bad, then they're both the same. Not sure on the actual odometer assembly though.

okay, i used my stock instrument cluster from my 86 BUT i used the actual speedo (not the upper odometer part) from the turbo S cluster. i used the odometer that worked on my 86 cluster and put it together with the speedo drive from the S cluster. installed back into cluster and installed back into car. i also cleaned all the power and grounds for the other instruments as well and everything WORKS!!! and accurately too. not bad for a saturday morning...

Do you still have the guts from the '89 cluster lying around (minus the speedo)?
I would be interested in that for the right price. I am fighting an oil pressure light on mine, and think that it is a bad transistor or flex sheet. Cheers, Keith

what all do you need? just the oil pressure/voltmeter gauge? or that and the back piece with the printed circuitry and the lights?

Was interested in all of the things you have mentioned (Oil pressure gauge and the flex sheets).
I am actually looking at just getting a whole '89 cluster as well, but if this is all extra stuff that you don't need, then it might work out better for both of us. Let me know, Keith
