Talking Well, I got my First 951 - YAY.

Well, I went up to Northern New Hampshire yesterday (Saturday) with my Parents to Check out a 1986 Porsche 944 Turbo. We hauled up a 1999 Suzuki King Quad (ATV) and a 2004 Arctic Cat Firecat F6 (Snowmobile) with us. We got to the guy's house and I checked out the 1986 944 Turbo and I liked it a lot.

So, we did an even swap. I traded the 1999 Suzuki King Quad and 2004 Arctic Cat Firecat F6 for the Porsche 944 Turbo. No Cash was Exchanged. The guy was happy about getting the "Toys" and I was really happy about getting my First 951.

This 944 Turbo is kind of my Birthday Present. Today (Sunday, June 21st) is my Birthday..I turned 23 yrs old today.

The guy had some other nice Cars. In the Driveway, he had two Audi's. One was a Audi S4 (B5 Model) and another was a 1990 Audi Coupe, which he had modded. Now, in his Garage, he had a Red Porsche 928 (Not sure what year)..and a 1977 Porsche 911.

Here are a couple of Pics of my new 951:

sweet find man, i did a trade as well. traded my 87S for an 85 951 that needed a little work, but i'd have been the second owner of the car since 1987, as far as titling.

Thanks Guys..

The 951 still has the Factory Radio/Cassette Player....LOL...

The guy even gave me the Porsche Key Chain that was given to him by the First Owner.

I am now saving up some Money so I can get the 951's problems worked out..such as the engine tapping sound, which I believe is a bad lifter. The 951 also needs a tune up, I believe.

these are fuel injected cars, they don't need 'tune ups'.

Try SeaFoam for the lifter problem. It's great stuff. Put the whole can where you normally put the oil in the engine and turn it on. Leave it idling until lifter noise goes away. Then change oil.

So, about the Engine Tapping Sound. I have narrowed down the area of where the Tapping Sound is coming from. Look at pic on bottom of this Post..

The Tapping sound happens at start up and is still there after the car is warmed up. Oil Level is Normal, too. If I step on the gas, the sound gets Faster. Kind of like someone using a Sewing Machine.

Also, the car seems to be shaking quite a bit. What could be causing this??

The injectors on these cars tend to make a "ticking" sound, moreso than most other cars. This sometimes sounds a little like very light tappet noise.

A collapsed lifter will make a distinctive "clacking" sort of noise that is noticeably louder.

Ah, then yeah, probably the lifter. Hopefully not a big or little end bearing, though the big ends tend to make more of a "knock" than a "clack" so you should be safe.

Here is a video of the Engine "Tapping" or "Ticking" on my 944 Turbo. Tell me what you think it could be. Sorry for the sound quality towards the end.

Sounds like a lifter to me....

Lucas oil additive or "That other one" (Can't remember the name) might help you clean it up.

Good luck, Keith
