944 turbo Silver Rose
Ive finally tracked down a 944 turbo that i can afford.
Its a Silver Rose car - so quite rare. It is a 1988 car so one of the original Turbo Cup cars finished in Silver Rose paint with the deck chair pink interior. The engine has 178k miles on the clock, but the car is original. I know it has rust at the bottoms of the front wings, but the interior is in very good condition except for some sun fading on the tops of the rear seats. Some pictures: ![]() ![]() So my questions: I know the seat material is no longer available in the UK. Can you get hold of this is the US? It seems that in the US, parts and labour rates are cheaper than in the UK. How easy will it be to rebuild the engine if needed? Is a silver rose car worth saving? Does it command more resale than a standard car? Thanks for your help. |

"front wings" does that mean door where i see rust at the bottom and the rocker panel.
not sure. rebuild is a rebuild, depends how much money you're willing to spend. some folks will replace everything, others only what's needed. they were unique and some are very expensive if in perfect shape.

I don't think it is a Turbo Cup car - you probably mean Turbo S...
Wonder what causes the UK cars to get rust in the rocker panels - we don't get that stateside....

JoshB - My bad as you stateside guys say. I meant to say that it was a Turbo S, which were based on or around turbo cup cars.
What is a rocker panel? Do you mean sills? We have quite harsh winters over here and use road salt to stop ice on our roads. Twenty years of exposure to this could be a reason? How hard is this sort of damage to repair? |

that is a nice car. good interior, as far as i can tell.
the engine is the same, internally, as the regular turbo. a bigger turbo and different computer. parts are very available. the damage on the rockers can be repaired. not too difficult at any good shop. i'd drive it. did you buy it? is it ok to ask how much?

Nyor - thanks for the reply.
Im going to see the car on Sunday. I saw it advertised about two months ago for £1500 GBP but missed it. Its now back up with a new owner for £3500 GBP. I hope to pay no more than £3000 GBP for it on Sunday. |

Lots of documentation as well as new parts including brakes, callipers, tyres.
New owner planned to make a track car out of it when he was given the car as a gift for £1500 GBP. Divorce means he has to sell this car as well as his highly modified 951 Silver rose - which is mint. Heres a picture of his other car its up for sale at £7495 GBP....

Very nice car!!!!! The only thing I could say is it appears the seats have been re-done. The stock silver rose cars had the plaid on the side bolsters and head rest area as well.

the interior is a special edition, as i am sure you know. it is what it is. it wouldn't have been my first choice materials for a nice car, but what do i know. i'd sure flog that thing at the track, however, pink interior and all.

So i went to see the car at the weekend.
The interior isn't quite as pink as it looks on the pictures and the re-trim has been done well. I took some more pictures here: http://s123.photobucket.com/albums/o310/rsb377/E972MAS/ The car was quite rusty on the sills, bottoms of front wings, between the rear lights. A strange area in the drivers side door had filler and was painted by Stevie wonder. Front PU was a mess - looked like it was painted with Tip-Ex. Car had vibrations through the wheel at 70mph, but held good pressure from cold and was about 3bar when hot. Enjoy - BTW the pink comment was classic
