It was only a coolant hose right?

You know that really annoying coolant hose, it's behind the engine and like 3 inches long and a 45 degree angle and attaches to some sort of a sensor or something? Well mine burst. So I replaced it thinking that was all that was wrong, but after letting it warm up for about a minute all four spark plugs were streaming smoke and I think the header closest to the firewall was also smoking but I couldn't say for sure. I closed the hood, which was apparently stupid because the car sputtered out almost immediately (which is why I didn't have a chance to check the header smoke lol). The smoke has almost no smell whatsoever, and it wasn't wet like steam so I have no idea what it could have been. Before this the car was running nicely..

Anybody have any ideas what could have gone wrong in the time between the hose bursting and it just sitting around waiting for me to replace it?

Thanks,
Joe

Wonder if all that moisture under the hood shorted something out. I'd leave hood open for a number of hours to dry out and see if it will start. It's probably electrical. You could always pull a plug wire and insert another plug (any plug will do), ground plug to block and crank to see if there is a spark. Bet, if it still refuses to start, the 5th plug won't show spark.

Sounds like the heater hose that connects to the Heater Control Valve is the one that ruptured. It sprayed all over the engine, esp. the rear. As the engine gets hotter you will have some steam from the anti-freeze mixture. Let the engine run with the hood up in an open area and keep a close eye on it.

Cheers,
Larry

Well that's the problem I'm having is that it didn't have that soapy smell that antifreeze gives off when it burns.. Is it possible for coolant to seep into the spark plug holes and then burn off when it gets hot?

Finally got around to giving it a better look. One of the studs on the header is missing a nut, and that one is leaking coolant. But somewhere else there is coolant coming in a pretty steady stream. Guess it's back to the shop again unless someone's got a brilliant suggestion..

Thanks,
Joe

Garage
are you sure coolant is leaking from the exhaust header and not dripping down there from somewhere else?

got photos?
