1987 944 Turbo - ABS System Question

Hi all

I have an 1987 944 Turbo running an Emerald ECU system. The car is equipped with ABS but the system doesn't work - the warning light remains on.

I would like to get the system working again and would appreciate some help understanding the system and how it links into the rest of the car.

I know it has its own ABS ECU, does this talk to the standard ECUs? in which case since they are no longer present is there a way to provide it with the information it needs?

many thanks

Andy

Did you replace the whole DME system or just chip it? I believe it is stand-alone regardless. You should try using the search function for various ABS light type threads. You will find how to troubleshoot the ABS system. For a dry look, look at clalrks-garage.com

Hello

It is a full standalone system (Emerald), I have had a read through and was coming up with the light staying on meaning a brain problem.

What I couldnt work out was if the brain for the ABS is standalone or linked into the DME computers, if it is standalone then the problem should be fixable where as if it needs some feed from the DME then I will be utterly stuck and might as well just get the ABS removed from the car!

the abs system itself is also stand alone and has its own computer, located high up in the passenger (right) side footwell. it operates completely separately and independently from the DME/KLR.

Brilliant - thanks for clearing that up for me. It suggests I can approach repairing the system as it being a normal set up

Then I will be very confused about how to do it as I don't have the original DMEs in the car.

i'm running the wolf stand alone ems, which completely replaced the factory dme+klr. i can tell you from direct experience that the factory abs system operates completely independent of the dme/klr.
