mystery parts left after repair ??
![]() ![]() After a bodyshop finished repairing my front bumper cover and passenger doors of my (rose silver 88 Turbo S), as well as painting the rear quarter panel (R&R marker light/rear bottom spoiler; door shells have been opened on both sides), I found these parts in a box in my trunk After the repair my sunroof is not operating. Can hear the motor whiz for a short while after pressing the button but then stops without the lifting arms moving-this with engine running and without engine running. Of course bodyshop claiming they never went there..... Anyhow, afer putting the clips of the trunk liner back in (should that not be included in a $3k body job??), i found the parts in the picture in my trunk. The rubber stops i realise keeps the liner down and serves as a support for the "winged" flaps covering the wheel-well storage bins. The other parts??? Could they have some function in the sunroof mechanism which now fails, or might they have been from other areas which have been opened/R&R ?? Hopefully the experts here could sleuth this one.... Thank you for any input! |

I think you are right about the rubber stoppers.
The washers and nuts, those could go anywhere. Those aren't specific to anything, really. However, given they're good condition, they probably go on the interior. And perhaps with the sunroof mechanism as you suggest. They look like 8 or 10mm nuts, which would mean they're not holding on anything too important. So the sunroof mechanism could be it. Which quarter panel did they repair? The sunroof mechanism is in the driver's side (left, if you happen to have an RHD car!). You need to pull back the carpet and then remove a plastic cover to access the actual motor. The sunroof motor: If the motor spins but the arms don't move, the plastic gears could be stripped. However, its unlikely they would both break after going to the bodyshop. (They're in the headliner, an area the bodyshop surely didn't access). It could be something is slipping at the actual motor. The four brackets, I don't know. They vaguely resemble brake line holders (which are painted black), but given they're condition that's basically impossible. It doesn't look like they would go inside the door panel, however I'm not familiar with the 10-speaker system the Turbo S has. Another thing...... may I suggest not going to this bodyshop anymore? ![]() Take care! Last edited by FrenchToast; 05-17-2012 at 07:16 AM.. |

rubber stoppers go in the back hatch, where the two side panels fold down to hide the pockets in the body behind each rear tire.
Those angle clips hold the new (as they're new) side markers front/rear (2 clips per marker) to the body

thx for the lightning-speed replies!
It is a US spec car. They did open up the area where the sunroof motor lives; had to put back the clips and obviously the rubber stops were not put back on the liner on both sides of the car. And they did R&R the side marker lights. Now I wonder how they are mounted ??? At any rate that still makes sudden sunroof failure a mystery.... and, the local Porsche dealer recommended this body shop...supposedly they send all their body work there....The body work done is great. But it would be nice to not have "extra parts" and a working sunroof, apart from the sunvisor clip they broke which i did not mention.... ![]()

they merely reused the old clamps to hold the markers in.
I had a painted stone-grey metallic 944TS; wonderful car but the wife didnt like the color: current 944TS is red.

![]() So now I think I know what happened.... They removed the cover for the sunroof motor assy and jarred the assy enough to break the plastic sleeve connecting the two guide tubes. Now if I try opening the sunroof, the cable merely squeezes out between the two disconnected tubes like toothpaste.... The clue that they opened the cover is that one of the screws was still in the body becaise it did not hold the cover down because the washer was one of the extra parts..... Now to try having the shop owe up to it is probably a lost cause.... They might not even know they broke it either to be fair.... Frustrating nevertheless.... Ahhh I avoid red Porsches...Had a beautiful 924S indian red..... Collected tickets like $^it collects flies....One was 1 mph over speed limit....a ticket I lost after fighting it in court... Stone grey is pretty much stealth on most roads .....
