Control arm rebuild options....

Hi Friends, new to the 951 scene and have a dangerously worn ball joint on my newly acquired '86. I would love recommendations for repair and rebuild, buy a rebuilt, or a must-have new or aftermarket option. This car started as a beater track car candidate, but has now received serious attention- new adj. konis, major belt service, interior seat swap and upgrade, cluster rebuild, various electrical repairs, etc.,. Contemplating a glass out base-clear respray..... Thanks for your input!

i put one of these in my car earlier this year, no issues so far: Zim's Autotechnik 944 Control Arms

IIRC 12 month warranty even.

Check out the link below as this guy knows his stuff about a 86 951. Notice how the control arm ball joint collar looks. If yours is deformed or broken a new/used arm is needed.

I bought the rebuild kit from Pelican with the brass coupler. I'm still what I would call a novice at the rebuilding of these cars and was still able to do it. It really is pretty easy. Just allow a full day for the epoxy to dry before you try to put them back on and fill them with grease.

Thanks for all the great advice! The control arm will be on my bench this weekend and I'll dig into it.

I would recommend some after market ones, more so for track use. The stock ones are known to fail at the swaybar pick-up points and ball joint area.

Take care!

With an '86, you can always convert to the steel control arms.

from what i understand, the steel arms flex and bounce under load, which is why porsche stopped using them.
