Failed CA emmission again

1st I would like to informally introduce my self.
I am an old Porschefans email lister from wayyyy back.

In short I am just another Porsche fanatic who really enjoys the 951. After having an 86 951 for about 10 years back in the 90s I sold it and purchased an 89 951.
I had it in NJ for a while and moved to CA in 2005........

Every few years I have to put the car back to stock and hope that I pass CA emmission.
By stock I mean everything is back to stock.

This time around I passed everything except NO reading
It apears to be running lean as indicated by my smog report.
In CA you can NOT make any adjustments at the testing spot so its either pass or fail.

Now my question is does anyone know how much adjustment the small CO fitting in the original J-tronic flapper must be turned to get the mixture richened up a bit.

there is the FQS adjustment at the back of the DME. You can access it thru a port in the DME case and make a 3% enrichment. My guess is your going to need a new cat. Get the car good and hot with at least 30 minutes driving, get on it to get the cat good and hot. Don't shut it off if you need to wait for the testing, the cat has to be HOT. BTW if you decide to get a new cat get the real OE replacement that is CARB cert. Don't wast your money on those hi flo cats. I set mine up to swap in and out easily as needed.

Here is a photo of the CO adjustment on a 944 turbo. I am trying to get a feel what amount of a turn clockwise (richer) will do.........

you did not fail the CO. you failed the NO (per the picture you provided). totally different animal. you have a lean condition, most likely from a vacuum leak(s).

My bad...... I meant to state NO.... Assuming there are no leaks and it had new plugs etc. which setting on the fqs out of the 7 would i choose. I am leaning to #5. I recall it to be +3% fuel & -3 timing.

i am not assuming there are no vacuum leaks. with numbers like that, i'd bet there are.

So the smog saga continues..... In addition to a colder set of plugs NGK Copper (1 notch colder) a few gallons of 100 octane unleaded race fuel, I also set the Fuel Enrichment setting to #7 (+6 fuel and -3 timing) and failed again because of high NO numbers on the 15mph test see attached scan.

Then I find out today that brake fluid is leaking inside the car under the mat. So after reading through various forums the consensus is that it cant be just the blue hose as that would leak on the OUTSIDE of the car not on the INSIDE.

I am trying to figure out how big a job this is, so if anyone has done this I would appreciate their input on how many hours on jackstands I am looking at to do the job correctly. I have done a few replacement head gasket's that being the largest job I have tackled on a 951 so how does this compare. Either way I was planning on taking the intake off and installing all new vac lines & tees to be sure there are no leaks contributing to the high NO numbers so in theory I should have a bit more room to work on the clutch master and slave while I am in there.

thanks in advance

You need to get a new CAT, since your only bad measurement is NO at low speeds/RPMs.
