Modding - Various Scenarios

In the process of doing maintenance that the PO dickhead wouldn't do...
I am looking into doing upgrades:
  1. Raising compression by .5 to .7
  2. KKK 26/8 or fast spooling equivalent
  3. S2 Intake
  4. Chip + new map
  5. Lindsey Maf

Also, what HP and torque numbers would this scenario yield?

Oh, forgot to mention, I'll be running: meth inj, 3" Borla exhaust, and x-over pipe.:D

Why the S2 intake manifold?

The 26/8 turbo will be your limiting factor. You would likely see very close to 300whp with it at 17-18psi but that is the limit. The further you turn up the boost, the whp will not change much, torque will continue to rise but your EGT's will probably go through the roof as the 26/8 will be way out of its efficiency range.

Regarding the S2 intake I have read that as an upgrade the low end torque increases.
Albeit, I have not heard of one on a turbo. And I am curious as to what, if any improvements it may harbor.

Ive never heard of the S2 intake manifold being used as an upgrade. One thing to consider is the ports on the 16v intakes are oval as opposed to round. I know its possible to port match an 8v intake manifold to the 16v oval style cylinder head, but i am not sure if its possible to port match a 16v intake to an 8v head.

The upgrade probably only applies to the 944S.

Random question Techno Duck..(and Nize if your around) where would you put the EGT sensor? Pre or Post Turbo?

Techno Duck 02-06-2013 04:14 PM

Pre-turbo on the hottest cylinder, about 1" away from the flange. Post turbo doesn't tell you anything useful.

I forgot what the consensus was on hottest cylinders, it was always #2 or #4 on my car though. I know its the flow characteristics of the intake manifold that cause this, i forgot if its #2 or #4 that gets the most air. Now that i think about it, i think its #2 that gets the most air and #4 that has the poor cylinder cooling (this is why many people blow the headgasket around the #4 fire ring).

Makes me wonder if the steam vent fitting has any effect on EGT temp from the #4 cylinder, i never checked this though.

BTW, RL member Laust has been making EGT probe kits that utilize the CO test port on the crossover. This is sort of an average temp of all the cylinders and also placed a bit further downstream of the cylinder head, because of these two factors you need to interpret the data a little differently. The thread is uber long, but there are a few really good posts from knowledgeable people explaining how to make good use of the data you get here. This is really easy to install, no need to drill a hole and weld a bung on your headers.

A PM would'a worked.
How is this related to an S2 intake???

i doubt an s2 intake would be better than the factory 951 intake.

i like the sfr equal length exhaust in the photo! i'm still hoping to upgrade to that in the future.

Never heard of the S2 intake mod. Doubt it would fit without a bit of fabwork. The stock intake is ok up to a certain hp and boost level. After that the original design brief for the car shows up. Move or delete the AOS and brake booster and you have room to build a proper performance intake.

A different set of race headers for reference. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1360406782.jpg

I'm meeting with a former GT owner/racer. He has some performance intakes for me. I'll post pics some time next week.

That will be interesting. Definitely post pics.

Here is the aluminum intake that was used on their GT car.

Don't know the story on this steel intake.

I asked on what he wanted for the intakes. Any idea what these are worth?

Don't seem like they're 944 turbo compliant intakes? Look more BMW...

Forgot to mention... they were running 16v heads.:D
The aluminum intake was on the 944GT and I believe he said the steel one was for a Toyota???
