951 restoration

Hello,
I bought a black 951 from toronto last spring. Was my first porsche and i loved it for the whole summer. Some problems on the car were making me disapointed. Shocks were dead dead dead,
Engine was leaking from many places
The bearings in the torque tube were dead,
The paint was not very nice
I didnt like the phone dials and tires were done
Dash was craked
Seats were sparco old race seats
Many vacuum leaks from craked hoses
Clutch was not handling well
stickers on the car
radio was not working
noises in the brake
car was not aligned
odometer was not working
front bearings and ball joints were to be done
... i bought the car like this and it cost me 7200$ to bring it back (6500 for the car and 700 fors gaz, plane ticket one way, inspections, etc.
I decided that a porsche deserve better than to be parted out and the general state of the body was very nice, no rust or oxidation and all parts under the car looked very fine.

So here my restoration process.

ps. sorry for my english
car when i brought it to my house

interior

I started by making it to the metal with plane stripper (thats bad i lost all the pictures of the process) Then applied a Zinc drop. All the car was yellow.
Next was the primer. here a pic on black primer with gravel guard.

new wheels

new tires 265/35 18 for the rear

new shocks

after
got the block to be checked... so much fear to have to change all the interns parts.
results: cylinder wall, cylinder, rod, bearings, everythings is A1. same thing for the head. Cost me around 350$ for both to be checked and planed.
oil pan cleaned

MSD 6 ALN with blaster 2 and tach adapter (placed the ignition and adapter above the passenger feet, it fit perfect.

Great. Have you bought a widefire gasket? How how did you pay at Porsche for your gasket kit? Probably too much..

500 for all the gaskets.
100 for all the hoses. tx included
not widefire... useless under low boost or low temperature.
i dont plan having a 500 hp car.
porsche didnt found useful to put a widefire gasket on the car and i think a good oem gasket is better than most widefire you will find.

the 4 bearings are bought. best quality. 12 000 rpm.

just learned that we can polish any metal stuff. i polished all brackets and metal plate this week when i had the time

remvoed the bearings from the torque tube....... what a ?%$*U?%$* crazy job.
1/2 impact was not even driving the first 1.
3/4 impact was driving the first to the second.
removed them with this!!!
it lifted the small 5000 lbs lift

almost

finaly

we finaly used the 5000lbs lift with another 5000 lbs lift with 2500 lbs of metal on the plates. it lifted all with 4 mens on them. finaly slided when everything was lifted half a foot in the air. BANG! got it
bearings cannot be removed unless i drill the rivets...
sleeves are so dead and bearings were even worst.
got the new heavy duty bearings. need to machine new sleeves and maybe bearings housings...

If your bearing carriers are still good. Just drill out the rivet.. Then when you reassemble them just offset the two halves so that the holes line up with steel behind them instead of a hole, tack weld into place. Works great!
