Long standing but not long suffering 944 turbo 951 where to start
I'm looking at an early 1992 944 with just 55000 miles! However it has sat unused for at least 10 years, in part due to a fuel supply problem. Whats everyones thoughts as far as what it might need, its been stored well in a dry environment. What would the coolant do to the engine sitting for so long, what is likely to be shot? Trying to get an idea of whether it is a viable project or not! |
Definitely viable...
New timing and BS belts, change all fluids (coolant, oil and filter, brake fluid). Probably new tires... maybe brake pads and rotors. Drain out the old fuel and put a couple of gallons of fresh fuel in. Remove the wire from the coil to the distributor cap. Crank the engine until you get oil pressure, the let it run... Look for leaks. Drive it for one mile... fix what you find wrong. Drive it for five miles... fix what else you find wrong. Drive it for fifty miles... fix what else is left. Then, drive it forever. |
You will likely be needing a lot of new rubber including the tires, coolant hoses, vacuum lines. I would be surprised if the cycling valve didn't have a crack also.
All very doable things. Good luck! |
