To sell or not to sell: Club Sport and/or Phone Dials

All, I need your advises or comments.

1) I have the Club Sport wheels, tires are Toyo Proxes T1R, that came with my Turbo S. Wheels are as straight as they can be and these summer tires have plenty of thread left (~8/32).

2) I bought Phone Dials of a 87 turbo and have put new all season tires on them (Bridgestone Potenza RE970AS). Wheels are also in very good condition and tire have ~1000 miles.

The idea was to have 2 sets of wheels, one for winter and one for summer. I live in Rhode Island and winter temperatures are near freezing point (not good for summer tires as they can crack) and I'm Canadian so I am used to this seasonal tradition of switching tires.

I am now thinking about selling the Club Sport wheels because tires that fits are becoming rare, and, well, I don't like them.

So the question is, would you drive a Turbo S with Turbo wheels? It's kind of snobbish but I don't like the idea..

Perhaps then I could also sell my Phone Dials and get 17 inch wheels instead.. Someone interested to buy my wheels+tires?? Or any advice on how to sell them for a decent price is welcome - cause, no, I am not giving them. VWvortex could also be a good place, right?

But hey, I shouldn't complain, having too much wheels is better then not having enough!!

Thanks for reading and any comments are welcome!

You can still find summer tires for these wheels, but the choice is limited.

How much did you sell them for? Did you sold them using this site, or where did you announce them?

Thanks

I sold them for $500 with tires. It was a local sale to a fellow club member. They were pretty hammered but straight and true. Yours are much nicer lol.

How did you get the phone dials to clear the front brakes on your Turbo S?

My phone dials are from a 87 turbo, and this is important because the wheel offset changed in 87 because of the introduction of the ABS system. Well, that's what is written on wikipedia "Because of the ABS system, the wheel offset changed to 52mm and Fuchs wheels were no longer an option.". I guess that's why they fit on my car..

Oh no they don't, unless you have spacers.

Been there, done that.

maybe you don't have a turbo-s? this is the real question.

the clubsport wheels are lighter than the phone dials, so they would give you better performance.

the clubsports are also a misnomer, as they are technically the wheels that came on the 928 clubsport, which were wider in the front. those are rare and hard to find and a good upgrade for the 951. the 951s wheels are more accurately called the 951 turbo-s wheels.

and look here for tires;
Tire options - why are there none?

nize - to answer your "real question", I obtained the option code list from Porsche and code 758 is in there. Engine and tranny codes are 47J01329 and AOR07048. Can I NOT have the M030 brakes then? Also, the question that was not answered is the year of the phone dials kdjones2000 tried to install.

You seem to know a lot on these cars, and I have questions. Were the original Turbo S wheels with a chrome finish? Mines are and I personally don't like it. Also, the second owner got a document stating that there were 2 sold in USA with my color code, but this is not an official Porsche document. Is there an official list available?

Thanks for the link, I did my homework and have already read it!

here's a thread that will help you determine if you have a turbo-s;
How can I tell if it's a Turbo S ??

the original wheels never came with chrome from the factory. some owners had them polished afterwards which gives a chrome-like appearance which many prefer over the factory wheels.

i have seen some wheels that were chromed, though i'm not sure why anyone would want to chrome them instead of polish them.

can you confirm if they are chromed or polished?

Yeah, my car is a Turbo S, for sure. Below is the document I got from Porsche before buying the car, the VIN being WP0AA2954JN151567.

Wheels are polished to a chrome-like finish look. So, this is not original... then I might try to find a shop nearby to bring them back original. Anyway, I'll think about it.

I have a document saying there were only 2 Turbo S sold in USA with my color, but it does not seem official. Do you know where I could find this kind of info? I already looked on this site but found nothing.

guru944 - the problem with those wheels is the lack of choice for tires, and it wont get better with time.

i thought your original question was to sell either the Club Sport wheels or the Phone Dials.

the clear answer to that is to keep the club sport wheels.

Indeed it was, I'll start a new thread with the color stuff.

And it seems like I should keep my CS wheels then.

Thanks all for your comments.
