951 Not Running Very Well
I have an 87 Porsche 951 and it appears that when the alternator went out it may have caused other electrical issues. My tachometer has stopped working and the car remains on choke after initial startup, running extremely rich to a point it is un- drivable. I have always looked after this car mechanically for years and it has stock electronics, except for a chip replacement (a long time ago) to cover boost modifications. The problem is how to start troubleshooting this issue without the expensive swap each part out and see if it fixes the problem. Does anyone have any good ideas or links to checking out the DME, MAF and other sensors that may be causing this issue? All I have is a multi-meter and time!

If you have time, why not send your boxes to Ian at 944 Online?
He will test them for you for free. Other things to do? 1) Rich condition might be due to O2 sensor fried or circuit is dead. Replace or check. 2) Find someone in your area with a 951 that you can swap computers with? Good luck!

If it's stuck on cold start, I'd look at the temp sensor. That's what tells the DME whether it needs cold start enrichment or not.

Thank you two for the recommendations on troubleshooting this issue. I'll try and figure out a game plan in the next few weeks, but sensor checks are certainly the first place to visit, so to speak!
Cheers! |
