1988 944 Turbo no power
Just thought i would ask some advice on a situation that arose with my 951. I stored the car in Mid September(I live in Wisconsin) in a warehouse that isn't heated. I drove it for about 1 hour with a fresh tank of premium and a little sea foam treatment to get to the warehouse. I removed the battery and left the car until today when i went out to see if i could start it up. I installed the battery and when i turned the key I got nothing… No dash lights, no crank, nothing. I checked the terminals and everything was tight and clean. the only thing that comes to mind would be a bad battery but its is relatively new(about 1.5yr old). Any advice on where to go from here? The first thing I'm going to do it charge and load test the battery out of the car but after that I'm not sure what could have happened to it while it sat this winter.

Where was the battery stored? Did it freeze up for a couple months or was it stored indoors?
(I've had a camper battery go to junk due to leaving it out all winter) First thing to check is the voltage at the battery.. make sure you've got 12V+ there.. If you do, run a seperate ground wire (like with an alligator clip on each end) from the neg battery terminal to a nice metal gound under the hood and try again.. If it's not grounding well with the neg battery cable, you'll get no power even though the battery has 12V Those are the first things I'd check..

Thanks for the quick reply. I stored the battery indoors in a heated basement but never charged it. Before I stored it it only went dead once after letting the car sit for a couple weeks, I'm thinking the battery is bad(I hope) but I will try the jumper next weekend and post back. I don't think it has to do with it but once last year the gauges stopped working while I was driving but started working after I started the car. Just thought I would post that up in case if it has any relevance.

Just thought I would let everyone know the fix for my problem. It was a combination of two things.
1 battery was weak, showed full charge until it started to load the charger at 9amps after 45min. Into the charge. 2. The ground cable the goes from battery post to firewall between engine and battery tray was corroded. So I charged the battery as much as I could today (4hr) and the car threw the lights on and on turned over once due to lack of battery power. Thanks for the help on this issue. I will probley be replacing the battery next week! |

Always remember NEVER store a battery on concrete floor, always set it on a piece of wood or carpet that is on the concrete floor. For some reason concrete drains batteries over time just my 2 cents

Sorry I forgot to update. Battery was shot and the corroded ground didn't help. Car is out for the season now thanks for the advice, and never again will I store the battery without a trickle charger on it
