944 Tach
Can't get my tach gauge to work. Replaced it with a used one to no avail. Anyone have any recommendations. Thanks. Rod Davis

just got my 951 project car started after months of installing a different engine.
my tac does not work either. will be watching this thread.

The tach is driven by the DME pin#21.
It's a thin green wire with black-stripe. Use an oscilloscope and probe that wire near the DME. The signal should look like attached photo. Trace this wire DME #21 all the way up to the dash-gauge. It goes through a 4-pin plug; make sure that plug is still connected. Probe the wire near the dash and verify that it matches the signal transmitted by the DME. This test will let you know if the signal or wire is bad, or if the tach is bad. ![]() |
