starting issues
I have an '86 turbo that doesn't always start right up. In the morning, it will start right up. through out the day I can drive it around then park it, come back a few hors later and it sounds like the starter is not engaging or the battery is dead. ill get clicks or just hear the starter spinning. then ill hear a very bad grind. I have taken the starter off, inspected and got it tested, it came back good. what else should I be looking for?

Battery? Ignition Switch? Tight connections between battery, starter and alternator? Ground?
After all, it's a pretty simple, robust system.

Just because the wiring is good on the starter doesn't necessarily mean the Bendix drive is OK.
There could be an issue with the starter gear not properly engaging the ring gear on the flywheel or, worse, there could be missing teeth or damaged on the ring gear.
