X-POST: 951 Brake Q
I MEANT EXHAUST Q. . .CAN'T EDIT TITLE!
![]() I am a total 951 noob, and I am trying to piece together an exhaust. I have the above two crossovers, and as you can see they have different flange types for the wastegate. The car is an 86, and I have the correct factory downpipe/cat assembly. I know something with the wastegate plumbing also changed along the way, but I'm not clear what. I currently have NO wg pipes. So, the question is, which crossover should I use, and which wastegate pipes? BONUS: If you happen to have the bits I need, speak up! Tia, Rasta

Fifty views, no replies? I guess that's why we see so many 951 posts in the regular 944 forum. . .

Rasta,
had not been to the shop since seeing your post/question. here are pics of the exhaust crossover and waste gate pipe on my 86 951. just in the process of putting the exhaust back on following a clutch job. depending on the short pipe you have to the WG will dictate which crossover you use. good luck. ![]()

Bob,
The original crossover pipe for your car was a "1-piece" type, meaning that the little short elbow you show was an integral part of the main crossover. It looks like someone already updated your car to the 2-piece type, which makes things easier and slightly less time-consuming to do.

should have taken a pic with the WG installed.
my crossover was a 1-piece, from the two outlets on the headers to the inlet on the Turbo. sent to LR to make a 2-piece. glad I did since I had to replace the damn clutch. are you confusing the elbow I am showing that connects from the crossover to the WG, to the elbow section of the 2-piece crossover that goes up to the turbo where the O2 goes? or maybe the outlet from the WG to the exhaust? here is a pic before I took out for the clutch job. on right, the little elbo I showed from the crossover to the WG, and on the left is the dump pipe from WG to the exhaust.

The LR modification is essentially converting it to a "3-piece".
That elbow is still considered to be part of the crossover pipe.
